Please can anyone give me any advice on what I can do please

I have a prepayment meter with British Gas and I haven't been able to afford to put any money in it.

I am unemployed and was just about managing

then I got a benefit sanction of over 6 months and

in that time I've not had any gas because I can't afford it,

but I have still been getting charged and I now owe over £87 in the meter.

So I would have to pay that of first and then put more money in to actually get gas

Can they do this, charge for gas when its not been used?

Is there anyway of me getting my gas put back on as I hate having no hot water or heating

and all this has been going on for so long now, I just want it sorted out

Thank you for reading this :)

well the standing charge if you had one cant been that much

unless you've not put money on the card for a good few months

did you have a debt with them from before?

and that's why the PPM was fitted?

or was it there when you moved in?

more info required

have you not been getting demand from them either?

what did your last bill tell you?

dx

please don't hit Quote...just type we know what we said earlier..

DCA's view debtors as suckers, marks and mugs

NO DCA has ANY legal powers whatsoever on ANY debt no matter what it's Type

and they

are NOT and can NEVER  be BAILIFFS. even if a debt has been to court..

If everyone stopped blindly paying DCA's Tomorrow, their industry would collapse overnight...

From what I recall when I was on prepayment meters, you don't have to pay off the whole debt. How mine worked (also british gas) was if there was debt on..say 20 quid or so and I topped up a tenner, it would take around 3 pounds for the debt and put the rest onto the meter

Yes thats right. A percentage of what you put on the card goes towards the debt and the rest towards the gas you use
