Hi, On 4th June I made a large transfer to pay off my mortgage to the halifax. The sum I transferred was the sum I was told from one of their advisors. I then logged onto my account a few days later to see my balance was reading around negative £1900. I immediately phoned up the advisor who told me I had transferred too much. I didn't understand as this was the amount I was told by the original adviser. Anyway I obviously happily accepted this and was told the money would be transferred back to me within 10 days. 10 days passed and no money was in the account so again I phoned up to explain the situation and was again told (by a different adviser) that everything was ok and it sometimes could take up to 15 days. So today (20/06) I phoned up to check what was going on, only to be told I had infact made the correct payment and I wouldn't be receiving any money back. As you can imagine having been told by two separate advisors that I would be receiving the money this came as a huge shock to me, especially since I had just paid for a family holiday with the money I was told id be getting back!! So this leaves me £1800 out of pocket!! I raised an initial complaint and after some apologising I was offered £300. What about the rest of the money that I have already spent which leaves me out of pocket! Am I entitled to get all this money back? The phone calls are all recorded they told me so I have proof.

So the mortgage payment was made as you had originally requested for them to do.

There was a bit of confusion about the payment being applied in the meantime - which was the basis of your complaint.

And now they've paid you £1800.

Amazing. Either you're incredibly polite & a pleasure to talk to on the phone or the complaints handler (and also their manager) was in a very good mood!

With all due respect, I dont think you should have pledged/spent the money, until it was in your account :(
