My partner has today received a letter from Wilkin Chapman notifying of a 'Notice Of Change of Solicitor'

regarding an unpaid judgement/order obtaied on 5th July 2012, for £1365.16 and wanting to agree payment terms for this debt...

. They have given us 7 days notice of applying for an Attachment Of Earnings with the court

and a whole raft of forms to fill in and return to them regarding her personal financial inforrmation

We have no idea of what this 'debt' is,

who it is from or anything about a court order back in July 2012,

there is no mention of which court this order was issued from either....

Help!

have you moved house or changed your names?

check your credit reports to see if a judgement has been granted.

If it has then you will have to go from there but

the most likely explanation is laziness on the part of the solicitors in sending out letters to someone with a similar name.

Is there a referenc number on the letter and supporting documents?

If so you could see if it matches a court case number, ie yz123456

If it does then that can be referenced back to the court.

phone Northampton and ask them about the case,

they are usually easier to get through to than local courts.

Check Credit Reference Files, then check trustonline for the judgement as well.

So Wilkin Chapman need to be told formally that you have no knowledge of any such matter, and you require unequivocal proof of any liability.

...and a request for reimbursement for trustonline? ☺

CAG has helped me so much since I joined. Based on what I have learnt from others on here and my own experiences, I try to chip in and help others from time to time. I am not an expert and give my opinion only. Always check with the more experienced CAG members before making important decisions.
