I have had problems previously with royal mail and their in-ability to deliver letters on time I several months ago sent a letter 1st class and to sign for it took 7 working days to deliver it, and the address was not even 100 miles away from where i posted it , After several attempts to complain to the post office/royal mail i eventually got a book of 6. 1st class stamps

More recently i had to return a faulty item to an address in Denmark so i used Airsure and payed the extra to cover the value, The tracking provided wasn't what they advertise, according to the royal mail tracking my consignment is @ copenhagen &still undelivered , when in fact it was delivered nearly 1 week ago , the Danish post tracking did slightly better it tracked it to a local sorting office ,But i paid for a service that is supposed to provide proof of delivery track to point of delivery they have failed to do this , should i be entitled to some form of compensation ?

And if that wasn't enough yet another 1st class letter using to sign for service, posted on the 6th of this month seems to have gone awol according to the tracking it has been delivered but the place is different to where it was addressed ,Onliner tracking reports that it's @ north west midlands PDO when it should be in Chester !!!!!! ??????????? Are royal mail really so incompetent ?

I don't think privatisation has anything to do with what you are experiencing. Their signed for services have always been a bit hit and miss.

Almost certainly if you attempt to claim on a letter that shows as "still being in the system" then they will suddenly manage to confirm it has been delivered - their system simply hasn't been updated.

A couple of years ago, I was constantly making complaints regarding - letters going missing or no signatures. It was very frustrating when you got a response that "they don't always obtain signatures" when you have paid for that service. On top of this, they used to promote the Recorded Delivery for "legal documents" so they must realise just how important a signature for receipt is.

I don't send any letter out now without at the very least obtaining a free proof of posting. That way, I at least get some stamps out of it.

You might be interested to read the thread linked below. Royal Mail attempted to not compensate for a delivery that went wrong - the guy had paid for an upgraded service and extra insurance. OP issued a claim and Won..

The recorded delivery service is a joke..

Now that's one thing I do agree on,I loosed count number of times I used recorded delivery, only to find out that the item Has been delivered but not signed for :|

Please use the quote system, So everyone will know what your referring too, thank you ...

I think we all have horror stories. When sending out my cca requests there were a few that showed as undelivered, RBS in sarf end being a particular pain. This week i paid £3 to send a small parcel first class to warwick. 4 days and still not arrived. I could have walked there and back myself in that time.

Any opinion I give is from personal experience .
