Renting from family

I was wanting some advice.

 

My husband and I have come back from abroad.

 

We are trying to find a place to live, a relative has offered us somewhere but this has thrown up more problems than it solves.

 

She is renting from an estate agent, but doesn't indicate that we will be signing any sort of contract (we need a contract or we can't have anything towards rent) There is still alot of things in the appartment, cat pee and so on, which we would be responsible for.

 

What should we be asking for before moving in? Our moving in is helping them out, but we do feel like we will be waiting to move out again. Plus her term is only 2 months left, but if it was 6 months we would want to choose our own place.

 

Do you have any advice on how to do this officially. Especially, as others aren't keen to talk to the agency.

Also we are moving in two weeks now but have nothing concrete about living anywhere and may find it difficult to find somewhere else. Although, we would prefer it

You might find yourself with problems if she will be subletting without any permission from the agency.

I believe she is planning on talking to them, but probably last minute. All she mentions so far is changing the bank details over. I'm not sure if she is doing nothing or going to do something. I don't want to end up with no house or two houses, I can see it happening

You've posted in the benefits forum, but most of your queries seem to be about renting. If this is your main query, I think you'd be better off in the residential lettings forum.

Suggest you find your own place to save future or present complications.

Or approach agent and take out your own new contract that may let your relative off the hook; bear in mind LL and agent will want to checks etc.
