"DWP" Visit - What do they want?

Hello, this is my first time using this website and forum but I read some previously in regards to my own question - the "DWP" people - and struggled finding one directly relevant to me. So here I am, writing my own.

 

A week or so ago I got a call from these people, requesting a visit to my house to speak with my 15 year-old (soon to be 16) son. He has Asperger's Syndrome and I have been claiming an enhanced parents allowance because of it for a few years now, which, I assume, is what the whole visit is about.

 

I was worried about this due to current financial problems, and so I was wondering - are they here to assess whether we are still eligible for the benefit? Are they here to cut what they can? It does seem that way, especially do to their vague reasoning's for the visit. Just to "assess" how things are going with my son. This is the first time anything like this has happened in five years.

 

So, to cut this short, all I'm wondering is what their intentions are. To cut my benefits, to alter it, or any of the like. Furthermore, I heard my son is even eligible for some sort of claim of his own? This whole process confuses me - I didn't even set up the enhanced benefit scheme in the first place, nor did I ask for it, it was suggested to me by schooling a long time ago - but now I'm on my own on the subject, and any help or further detail I would value immensely.

I think this is a routine assessment because of your sons age, all the options and possibilities for his future care and benefits must be discussed to decide what is best.

I had similar with my son ( he is 22now) its an informal meeting really, they wanted to know if my so was able to manage his own money and he wasnt so i became his legal guardian/appointee which means all paperwork i must sign and i have to deal with all benefits wether its job centre or dwp.

Its nothing to worry about the lady i had was fab just asked few questions then left.

Your son is going to be 16 years old soon a lot of things changes for him when it comes to the dwp and the local authority too, don't worry yourself it's just a routine check to see if your son can cope on his own, able to deal with his own money and stuff because at that age he is entitled to take matters in his own hands and make decisions that is all, if you feel your son cannot do anything for himself just say so, they then will appoint you as his carer or guardian!

I've never heard of an enhanced parents allowance so googled it and that came up with nothing. Do you mean an increased child tax credits?

 

My dd is on the autistic spectrum and receives DLA (I assume your ds does to?) and I am my dd's DWP appointee and complete her forms and they write to me about her benefit though her benefit goes in to her own account for her use and always has done. I've never had a visit from the DWP, nor has she though I think she was 16 when we first applied for DLA (which then led to increased CTC) so maybe we escaped the pleasure. Anyway, I hope that the appointment was just routine and went well. Do let us know how you got on.
