In 2009 we had trouble moving from them to a new supplier, every time we tried we had money to pay, we paid everything they asked for until they released the account and we were able to transfer to british gas.

However my husband has a £20 unpaid on his credit file from them, ive contacted them twice about this saying we paid it all so please remove it, but theyve ignored me.

Is there a letter or anything I can send to try and get it removed. thanks

Hi, i understand you have already paid the amount? How did you pay? Can you prove this was paid?

If this was paid before the entry was made, the entry on the credit file is false. Ultimately a false entry could end up costing you £1000`s as you wont get the best loan rates/deals ect.

Attach all supporting documentation ( take copies) to a letter stating the situation. Send via registered post to Scottish Power Customer Services. The company should rectify the information the CRA holds about your husband within 28 days of receiving your query so make sure you keep a note and check back.

Try this first. Let us know how you go.

Hi thanks, they say there is still some outstanding, I have offered to pay it although I was sure we had paid all the outstanding balance before we moved to another supplier.

They have said though even if I pay it now , the default cant be removed.

It maybe worth asking the CRA if you can place a note on your file stating this amount was a small oversight, explain what happened ( as long as its not defamatory or personal) and was paid as soon as you became aware of it.

Mistakes happen, this appears to be an oversight. I would not ruin my credit score for the sake of £20, no sane or able person would im assuming.

If you are going to make a formal complaint, which IMHO you should do, then it would be in your interest to send it to their Head/Registered Office. Customer Services are programmed to prevent you going any further than them !!

If you were not provided with the correct information or the opportunity to repay any outstanding monies prior to them going into "attack credit file" mode, then that is very unfair.
