Hi guys,

I am looking for some advice on defaults on your credit file:

1. If you have a default on your credit file with an outstanding balance,

even if you are paying this monthly,

will a lender be able to see that you are maintaining monthly payments while there is an outstanding balance?

And even after the balance has been brought to zero,

do they just look at the fack that it is a defaulted credit agreement?

is it better to try and clear the balance as quickly as possible if i can while in default,

or will the fact that I have maintained monthly payments during the default help my rating any?

2. I am aware that a default drops off your credit file after 6 years, but is this 6 years from the date the default was logged,

or 6 years after the balance has been paid off?

3. Are the answers to both questions above the same for a CCJ?

4. If I have a debt on my credit file and i'm offered a settlement figure, and this is logged as part satisfied, how badly will this affect my credit rating? Am i better to pay the full balance so that it shows as satisfied??

Thanks.

hi welcome aboard.

1.yes

2.the whole account will vanish on the defaults 6th birthday, paid or not.

3.yes the ccj will also vanish on its 6th birthday.

4. PS is just as bad as a default..

if any creditors or dca's are offering a reduced figure that means there is something WRONG with the debt.

get an sar off to the Original crfeditor. find that reason & get reclaiming.

it might be an idea for you to list your debts

and whom you currently pay

and if they ALL show on your CRA file?

Hi,

Thanks for the swift reply.

Sorry, so for the first question which part are you ansering yes to? Is it best to pay the debt off as quickly as I can? Or can lenders see that i'm maintaining payments while in default status?

I'm not sure what could be wrong with the debt, as I know i owe the money and i'm pretty sure that the balance is correct??

Thanks.

and who was the original creditor

pers i'd be checking anyone demanding money from you

is legally allowed to do so.

assuming the debt is legally due is ok.

but reading around here

you'll see that's not always 'true'

tell us about the debt please
