i dont know how they got my number from as i have been ex directory since 2004 only my friends and family have the number and would not give it to anyone,

even my mobile phone provider does not have it and my car insurance provider does not have it either does anyone have any ideas how on earth they obtained it ?

Have you had anything delivered i.e. furniture, electrical items etc where you have had to give a contact number for the delivery driver ?

Ex Directory simply means your number isn't published in the phone directory.

If you ring someone then they get your number as you need to block your CLI number at source.

I wouldn't worry too much about how they got your number, just don't engage with them over the phone, if they continue ringing then use your network providers malicious calls procedure.

This is why they do it, because they know that the majority of people don't record their phone calls, plus they know that most people are easily threatened and intimidated by their puerile missives with big words they have plucked out of a dictionary.

What they fail to realise is that, telephone numbers can be changed, or simply hung up on after telling them where to go. Their silly little letters can all be ignored as the words they like to use are meaningless, nothing more than sentences that they think will intimidate you because it intimidates them.

If it was defaulted in 2004 and you have made no payment nor admitted liability then the account is statute barred. You could if you wish send the statute barred letter from the CAG library, top left hand side of the screen - highlighted in green.

Once they receive that then they should leave you alone. If they don't, then you can report them to both the OFT and Financial Ombudsman.

It would appear they are claiming there was a transaction in October 2008. But you have said there has been no transactions since 2004 ?

Can you confirm please?

Have they said how much the transaction was ?

If you are sure that no payment has been made or acknowledgment of liability since 2004, then you will need to write to them to offer up proof of this "transaction".
