A friends mother lost her hubby back at the beginging of year. She is elderly & disabled. And grieving quite bad at the moment. Apparently she can't afford to put her heating on. My friend doesn't live near her & her mum can't stop with her as her house isn't suitable for her mums disabilities. My friend claims disability, not for physical though. So she can't afford to help her out.

I know recently there was talk about better off pensioners donating some of their fuel allowance to less well off pensioners.

Does anyone know where info for this may be found? Or any other help you can suggest.

Has she contacted Age Concern?

Yes, this is the best option, as they will have access to all the info that can help, and check she is claiming all her entitlements and will know about schemes the power companies have.

What's come out lately about how the energy companies are playing games to charge more and make more profit, makes me so so angry. I read somewhere bills should be half what they are - how many older people will die because of this type of greed?

I'll suggest that thanks.

Yes I know, they should be ashamed of themselves. I rang them recently for something & the bloke reckoned that most people were on the lowest tarrif anyway, so it's the government scaremongering. No idea how true that is.

Hi

Something else to consider is contacting her energy provider to ask the following:

1. Can she be registered for the energy Providers Priority Service.

2. Is she entitled to apply for the Warm Home Discount.
