  1. Ban fossil fuel companies from sponsoring, donating or having any involvement in schools and other activities that are aimed at or could influence children under 18. Why is this important? We all know that climate change is a real threat to everyone and everything on this planet, and that the fossil fuel industry is the biggest cause of pollution, the increase of greenhouse gases, and of creating global warming. The industry is responsible for poisoning our waterways, oceans, air, and land. Also, a lot of the chemicals the fossil fuel companies extract are used for making plastics. Plastics are choking our oceans, killing our sea life, and contaminating the sea salt, which in turn will contaminate users of sea salt. Much more on the link. And have your say,say how you feel.Whatever your views are. Thanks. 2. My son used to work for a big retail company and had a company car. The company failed to inform HMRC that he had a fuel card with his company car and now my son has been hit with an unpaid tax bill for £1700. The company only sent off the proper form declaring he had a fuel card when he left the company. He is very angry to receive this bill as it appears that he is being billed for the actions of this company and it appears malicious that they only sent off the form when he left. Is there anything he can do about this?
  3. Hi We changed broadband and landline provider in May 2017 from Fuel Broadband to EE, we were not tied into a contract with Fuel Broadband at that time. When we tried to pay the last bill of £20 we were unable to as the site wasn't active nor were any of the contact details to pay them. Today we received a text message from the Post Office saying that we owe them £20 and threatening us with debt collectors. This is the first contact we have had. On phoning them they couldn't find details of our account and told us they would have to get Fuel Broadband to contact us. They rang us and told us to ring the Post Office back when we were ready to pay and pay them. Do we owe them? The contract was always a month in advance to begin with and we can't check on what the final £20 is for because since switching to EE we no longer had access to account history and Fuel Broadband disappeared. Can anyone give any advice? Should we just pay the £20 and hope that is the end of the story? Many thanks for any help.
  4. One of the kids has a 2004 Vectra 2.2 SRI dti, of which the fuel gauge has decided to have an intermittent [and now terminal] fault. Did the usual tests on the circuit and all appeared to indicate the sender, replaced the sender with a tested used one and now nothing at the terminals. Have tried the usual check to earth etc but nothing at the gauge and wiring now appears to be open circuit. Sort of indicates this was the original problem and the jiggling around under the back seat has now killed the thing entirely and shown up the original wiring problem. Anyone know the route of the wiring or where I can find a diagram? Don't have access to ramps and really don't don't fancy wedging my 20st frame under the arse end of the car without knowing where to start looking. Thanks
  5. Consumers who cannot afford their energy bills are set to receive free vouchers for gas and electricity at so-called ‘fuel banks’. Energy giant Npower is planning to offer millions of pounds worth of free energy to claimants around the country in much the same way food banks give out emergency food parcels or supermarket vouchers. Npower has been working with food bank charity the Trussell Trust on its plans, which could see vouchers equivalent to two weeks’ worth of gas and electricity handed out a maximum of three times a year to those in need. The plans are due to be piloted this summer, Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3045322/After-food-banks-poor-fuel-banks-Labour-hails-Npower-plan-away-20m-gas-electricity-s-gimmick-cover-sky-high-bills-rest-us.html#ixzz3XsJhJIfp
  6. put £10 petrol in car on my dinner break and realised I forgot my wallet. Went in to the shop 9esso) and politely admitted this, offered them my driving licence as ID etc. And even pointed out she had put the wrong colour and reg down for my car (which was greeted with a huffed "well it looks like blue from her" The women was most rude, basically told me its not on ETC, again I apologised. My question is this (I will complain about her attitude) She filled a form in with all my details and took my number etc and said I had to be back by 6 to pay or she would call the police. Ok I said no worries. I asked if I needed any paperwork or to sign anything and she told me now as I've filled the police report form in and its not an agreement. I asked if its not an agreement how can you enforce it if I for example come in after 6 to pay it? Her "well its an agreement" Me "but you just said its not an agreement and as neither of us has signed it how is it an agreement" I left as you couldn't answer. No I have no intention of not paying, its more the women's attitude etc that riled me. This led, me to wonder if there is a specific protocol for this issue as surely im not the only fool in the world that has made this honest mistake.
  7. Anyone had any problems with fuel from tesco? Apparently i am the 4th person to breakdown and also had purchased my fuel from tesco. Awaiting correct diagnosis until i write complaint! Just wondering if anyone else has had problems.
  8. I bought a replacement fuel tank from a breakers via Parts Gateway. They clearly had the correct details of the car and supplied a tank, which I had fitted by my local garage. When we came to fuel the car up, we found the nozzle wouldn't fit in the filler neck, because it was obviously a petrol tank, which has a smaller nozzle than the diesel. Where do I stand will this? Clearly I could claim the cost of the tank back, but it's on the car and I'll be getting a bill for 3 hours labour very shortly, which will be about £120, and I'll have to pay for more labour to take it off and send it back. Can I claim the labour costs off the breakers? BTW, this has all come about because someone drilled the tank to steal the diesel, so it's not been a happy process from the outset
  9. Hi, I need some advice, I have a Vauxhall Meriva registered in Jan 11, so just over three years old. It has 28'500 miles on the clock and i need a new fuel pump. As it is 'just' over three years old the warranty is finished the repairs wont be covered. I just feel for such low mileage this is a big job? could be wrong and just wanted to know if I have a case to take it further with vauxhall?
  10. Has anyone had trouble with Fuel control services regarding annual card fees?
  11. Just looking for some advice. On Saturday I filled up at Asda using the Pay at Pump, filled up with diesel costing around £57. Prior to filling up we had around 80 miles left in the tank. Afterdriving to a few places my husband began our 30 mile drive home from my parents. While driving the car became sluggish, no power and wouldn't go above 60mph. I called our dealer on Monday and it was booked in for checks. Apart from a leak on the water pump all seemed OK with car but they said they suspected fuel contamination. I called Asda and was read a brief over the phone and was told there had been no other complaints about the fuel and that there was no way to prove contaminated fuel. I have had to now pay £324 to the garage for a tank drain, clean fuel line and a new fuel filter. I have contacted consumer direct who have informed trading standards. I have been advised to write to Asda where i filled up and Asda Head Office. So far I'm out of pocket by around £380 inc the lost diesel. Does anyome know what I can do or do I just leave it and take the hit. Many Thanks
  12. Hi All, I bought a used car (02 reg) with 124k miles on the clock in November 2013 - it was described as perfect in every way with full main dealer service history. Car was driving very well. It broke down last week and had to recovered to my local independent for the brand. They have now confirmed that the fuel pump needs changing. I have tried contacting the dealer (works from home) several times on his mobile - that is the only contact for him - no answer. He is one person but has a proper company registered (googled him) and had given me a proper receipt when I bought. I paid via direct bank transfer. I have now sent a letter to him by recorded delivery worded as at the bottom of this post. Now the independent garage have kindly agreed to hold on to the car till I give the green signal to fix it. I do need the car for work. I can manage a week or so with public transport. Now if the dealer does not respond within 7 days, I intend to pursue the matter. But can I get it repaired after the 7 days and claim the cost instead on the premise that I did give him the opportunity to put things right but he didn't. Thanks very much in anticipation. ******************* Dear ****, RE: Faulty goods and the Sale of Goods Act 1979 (as amended) On 16th November 2013 I bought a ***** (registration number *****) from you for **** which broke down on 14th January 2014. I have had to use my recovery company (*****) to recover the car to my local ***** Specialist ****** (based at ******). They have now confirmed that the problem is that the fuel pump in the car is faulty and needs replacing. The Sale of Goods Act 1979 (as amended) states that when a consumer buys goods from a trader they must be: as described; of a satisfactory quality; and fit for any purpose made known at the time of sale to the seller. This legislation also states that the seller, not the manufacturer, is legally obliged to sort out a problem if the goods do not meet these requirements. The Sale of Goods Act 1979 (as amended) says: if goods break within the first six months after purchase then there is a presumption the goods were faulty when sold. The car was not of satisfactory quality when sold to me and I wish to claim a repair (of satisfactory quality) of the car under the Sale of Goods Act 1979 as amended. Please respond to my complaint within 7 days from receipt of this letter. If you need to speak to me, my number is ******. If you need to speak to the dealer, please ring them on ******* and ask to speak to ******. Yours faithfully, [your name] *******************
  13. 'Winter Fuel’ payment. Older taxpayers receive 'Winter Fuel’ payments and I'll explain it by using a Q & A format: Q. What is a 'Winter Fuel’ payment ? A. It is money that the government will send to old taxpayers. Q. Where will the government get this money ? A. From taxpayers. Q. So the government is giving me back my own money ? A. Only a smidgen of it. Q. What is the purpose of this payment ? A. The plan is for you to use the money to purchase gas and electricity...or a high-definition TV set, thus stimulating the economy. Q. But isn't that stimulating the economy of China ? A. Shut up. Below is some helpful advice on how to best help the U.K. Economy by spending your 'Winter Fuel’ payment wisely: * If you spend the money at Asda or Tesco, the money will go to China, Taiwan or Sri Lanka * If you spend it on petrol your money will go to the Arabs * If you purchase a computer it will go to India , Taiwan or China * If you purchase fruit and vegetables it will go to Mexico , Honduras and Guatemala * If you buy an efficient car it will go to Japan or Korea * If you purchase useless stuff it will go to Bangladesh * If you pay off your credit cards or buy shares, it will go to management bonuses and they will hide it offshore. Instead, keep the money in the UK by: 1. Spending it at car boot sales 2. Going to night clubs 3. Spending it on prostitutes 4. Buying beer or whisky 5. Getting yourself a tattoo 6. Visiting a bookie (These are the only UK businesses still operating in the U.K. ) Conclusion: Be patriotic - go to a night club with a tattooed prostitute that you met at a car boot sale and drink beer day and night !No need to thank me...just glad I could be of help.
  14. morning to anyone that can help! I have a bad credit rating and so my sister financed a new car for me back in October last year. I went for the Peujeot 'just add fuel' offer and got the entry level 207, it included 3 years free car insurance and 3 years free tax. Im in financial hardship and so for £200.00 a month this was perfect. My sister did not visit the showroom at all i made all the enquiries myself and told her the details on email. She told me to be sure of the free insurance deal as this is really what clinched it (my current car insurance costing me £70 a month). I spoke to the salesman twice about the insurance and he was well aware that the finance was going in my sisters name ; I asked him if i would qualify for the free insurance as Id had an accident 3 years prior which resultedd in a claim. He said that this was not a problem proving i could provide proof of no claims bonus. I had 5 years protected no claims and so this wasnt a problem. Before I called up and paid the £500 deposit - I spoke to another sales rep and confirmed what i had been told about the insurance deal and they confirmed what the other guy had told me was correct. i paid the deposit. As it was a brand new car I asked if i could pick a registration and they told me it was too late for that once had already been picked which i was a bit annoyed about. they provided me with the details to call up and arrange the insurance. My sister contacted them and sorted the insurance out. They told her that they wanted her no claims not mine - she assumed it was a problem at the sales office and made a note to sort that problem out later. Then she received a letter from the peujeot insurance company stating that unless my sister could provide her proof of NCB then the insurance policy would be cancelled. I complained to the sales man who sold me the car (all be email) and he didnt really understand what the problem was and in the end just said - 'yes your sister needs to provide no claims' this is NOT what he said when he sold me the car - him and his colleague confirmed it was me that need to provide the ncb as i was the one who had the accident. I have not had to take out seperate insurance policy for this car which is cost me £65 a mont h - so rather then the deal costing me £200 a month iots now £265. Completely not what i budgeted for. I was driving round in old bangers with my newborn baby these old cars kept braking down and my sister kindly offered to help me finance a cheap new reliable car so the fact im now paying £265 is not what i budjeted for. Is there anything i can do - i have nothing in writing about this as i made the confirmations over the telephone, all I have is my emails to the sales rep arguing the fact that he had misinformed me. Thank you for your help
  15. Hello. I purchased a scenic for £2195 from what appeared to be a good local used car dealer 8 days ago. 2 days ago a service light came on so I got it booked into my usual garage to be given the once over. I have since found out that the fuel pump is worn and that this has meant metal has contaminated the entire fuel system and will cost the best part of £1400 to fix properly. I have a warranty but it states that none of these components are covered. I am wondering where I stand as to getting my money back. I would rather not have them repair it. So far all we have done is inform the garage of the fault and they have told us to bring it down, which we plan to first thing tomorrow. Thanks for any advice
  16. Car in the garage, certain Unleaded put in but garage smells faint diesel. Anyone else had problems with Tesco Talbot Green this week?
  17. This video was uploaded in 2007. In the video, it is said to expect to see this innovation taking off. It is now six ears since this video and I wonder why it's taking so long to give us this economical, pollution free free, not to mention the minimal cost fuel? If anyone knows more about this, please tell.
  18. Hard pressed motorists would pay far more attention to fuel prices if they realised how much they were paying per GALLON. At the moment I am paying £1.38.9 per litre for diesel. That is £6.32 per GALLON. If this group were to highlight this more forcibly perhaps we might see a bit more action.
  19. A friends mother lost her hubby back at the beginging of year. She is elderly & disabled. And grieving quite bad at the moment. Apparently she can't afford to put her heating on. My friend doesn't live near her & her mum can't stop with her as her house isn't suitable for her mums disabilities. My friend claims disability, not for physical though. So she can't afford to help her out. I know recently there was talk about better off pensioners donating some of their fuel allowance to less well off pensioners. Does anyone know where info for this may be found? Or any other help you can suggest.
  20. *** NEWS RELEASE ** NEW RESEARCH REVEALS LACK OF AWARENESS OF SUPPORT FOR FUEL COSTS AMONGST THOSE ON LOW INCOMES A new survey commissioned by Turn2us, part of national charity Elizabeth Finn Care, has found that people on low incomes are unaware of the potential support available to help with their fuel bills. This is despite the fact that nearly two-thirds (64%) of those surveyed are uncertain if they can meet these costs this winter without experiencing financial hardship. Over a third (37%) of people living in low income households* have never checked their eligibility for welfare benefits and tax credits, and over two-fifths (45%) are currently not claiming benefits that they may be entitled to. Claiming benefits entitlements can not only boost income to help pay fuel bills but can also act as a trigger for eligibility from various fuel poverty programmes. The research also found that over two-thirds (70%) are unaware that energy suppliers have to offer cheaper ‘social tariffs’ to their most vulnerable customers and over two-fifths (43%) are not aware of the government’s Warm Front scheme which provides funding for insulation and heating improvements – despite the fact that they are on a low income and could be eligible for assistance from these schemes. Furthermore, over one in three (36%) have never or can not remember when they last checked they were on the cheapest energy tariff available to them. These results are particularly worrying in light of the findings that the costs of last winter’s fuel bills caused over two-fifths (44%) to feel stressed, nearly one in seven (14%) to suffer illness or physical pain as a result of cold conditions and over one in eight (13%) to fall behind on their bill payments. Shockingly, over half (55%) said that if they were struggling to meet their fuel costs, they would resort to switching off their heating altogether or only heating one room at a time and two-fifths (41%) would cut back on other essentials including food, yet only 6% would consider approaching a charity to see if they were eligible for a grant. The official definition of fuel poverty is where a household has to spend more than 10% of its income on fuel to maintain an adequate level of warmth. There are currently an estimated 4.75 million households in fuel poverty in the UK, around three-quarters of which are on a low income**. Turn2us is running its second annual Acting on Fuel Poverty campaign throughout the winter to highlight the support available to those struggling with their fuel costs, and has launched a dedicated campaign microsite at www.fuelpovertymap.org.uk. The microsite directs users to sources of help including the Turn2us Benefits Calculator to work out which welfare benefits and tax credits they might be entitled to, the Turn2us Grants Search database which provides access to over 3,000 charitable funds, information pages on increasing energy efficiency and energy efficiency grants, and a link to the Which? Switch energy tariff comparison tool for users to check they are on the best tariff available to them. The microsite also includes an interactive fuel poverty map for users to find out, according to the official definition, if they are in fuel poverty and compare different areas across the UK. Alison Taylor, Director of Turn2us said: “Our latest research findings show that there is a need for individuals and families to have access to clear information and independent guidance to help them find support with rising energy costs. Our fuel poverty microsite brings together a number of tools which are free to use – all in one place, which can help households identify whether they can maximise their income and reduce their energy costs ahead of the arrival of their winter bills.” Helen*** worked as a nurse for many years before she had to leave work due to ill health, and on a limited income, she found herself struggling with her household bills. Her house was damp and living in a rural village, Helen would travel to the nearest town library once a week to keep warm for a few hours. It was here that searching on the internet, she came across Turn2us. Helen identified through Turn2us that she was eligible for a charitable grant which paid for the damp in her home to be fixed and gave her some extra money to put towards her bills. Helen said: “The money I received has been a lifesaver and has had a huge impact on my quality of life. I now live in a warm home and the extra money for bills has really taken some of the pressure off.” Turn2us is working in partnership with a number of charities and organisations across the UK for the Acting on Fuel Poverty campaign, who will help to increase awareness of the help available for those in fuel poverty and how they can access it. For more information about the campaign, please visit www.fuelpovertymap.org.ukand www.turn2us.org.uk.
  21. Can a claimant get backdated payments if during the relevant winter the claimant was on assessment rate, then subsequently won on appeal? According to the Directgov site payments can't be made for late claims for any winters from 2000/01 onwards. My argument is that the automatic payment was not triggered due to claimant status, and that a claim could not be made for the same reason.
  22. Well with oil prices falling to $90 a barrel and forecasters saying it could drop to $50 as demands fall, you can bet they will be looking at a bigger increase than 3p come January. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-18588855
  23. Hi all, I'm in need of some advice regarding the early termination of my Just Add Fuel agreement with Peugeot. I took the scheme out last August, and at the time knew that a year later there could be the possibility of moving abroad, I was told at the time by the dealer that this wouldn't be a problem and that I was free to give the car back at no extra cost whenever I wanted. I am now going to be moving away for 2 years from August so contacted Peugeot to begin the process of returning the car. The lady on the phone was very positive about it and said I would recieve a letter in a few days. I just recieved the letter however which states that in order to return the car I have to pay £3,380 and that in order to return the car I have to send a cheque with that amount. I feel so angry because I was completely misled at the time of taking the agreement out to think that I wouldn't have to pay anything else (I have already paid a deposit and £217 per month). Had I been aware of this situation at the time I wouldn't have gone through with the agreement and I wondered whether I have any rights to avoid paying this. I don't have that money available but can't leave the car if I am away for 2 years. Has anyone been through this or does anyone have any advice? I'm really worried about it
