Hi all.

We purchased a acer aspire one from comet last boxing day for a present

.We have had a lot of problems with it.

First the microphone didnt work,

a key has popped off the keyboard,

and the screen has now failed.

comet fobbed us off from day one,

and so recently we contacted acer who seemed very nice and said dhl woul collect the laptop and repair under warranty.

Or so we thought!!

We then got a bill stating that the screen was damaged by us so was not covered,

but the keyboard would be replaced and the microphone fixed.

I complained that we had not damaged the screen and it should be covered by warranty(!)10 months old)

This complaint was escalated and i received a phone call from a lady stating that she was bearing bad news

!Acer were not going to repair anything on the computer and she was overturning the decision to replace the keyboard and mic(which we have in writing).

She stated that keys DO NOT drop off the keyboard, and must of been prized off.

Today i have recieved the laptop back with NO REPAIRS at all. :mad2:Seething !:mad2:

Help please

although after this period of time the burden of proof rests with the buyer

- he needs to show that the damage was caused by a manufacturing defect that was present at point of sale.

perhaps a google for similar faults would be sufficient

- see if other people have had the same problem.

we dont know what the sreen damage was.

ideally , as always, if COMET didn't always fob customers off

then they would have asked the OP to get a report done.

they didn't.

They are not really that cheap. They look cheap because here in non-USA we are used to being ripped off while in the USA you can buy a decent computer with good specs for just about half price (if you factor the exchange rate).

  • 3 weeks later...

....

most manufactures dont class one or two popped up keys as acc dam anymore - hence a tactful admission that occasionally it happens, its only plastic clips after all

as to the screen, ok they dont crack on their own very often but benefit of the doubt here after all there is at least one acer with a known issue for cracked screens

if you have to remove keys try differnt directions they tend to come off more easly at one corner than others

i cant remember the exact model number it was one of the large hinge ones, 6935? something like that one of those daft tuba designs, there was a strengthening bar on the inside of the rear cover and they found that it pressed on the screen when opened or closed, causing a crack
