Hello, IdaInFife

I'm wondering if you could give me some advice?

I'm currently unemployed and am trying to resolve my council tax debt. I've spoken with Walker Love if an agreement could be arranged. I'm also disputing the amount, as i was at college and thus exempt from paying council tax, which i'll speak with the college i attended about. However, because i'm receiving JSA, i can't commit to the £30 a month they are asking for. I offered them £2.50, now i understand this is a measely offer, but i'm in no position to offer anymore. Most of my income (£260 a month) is spent on driving lessons, literally every penny, which is a must to secure an employment offer in England. Once i am in employment, i would offer considerably more to clear the debt, something around £50+ a month.

Judging by the person i spoke with on the phone, i'm concerned as to what their next step will be, as it was a notice of enforcement they've sent me. Once i've spoken with with college and Fife council, i anticipate the arrears will be reduced, but some arrears will remain. I'm committed to getting on my feet and clearing the arrears. I don't want this to escalate into bankruptcy or an arrestment of my bank account.

Could you please offer a little insight into what's my best course of action, and if they do escalate this what i can do to try negiotiate an agreement to suit us both.

Thanks.

Kind regards.

Hi Fade,

You can have the arrears deducted from your JSa which i think is about £3.50 per week.
