Just curious. We have a pet insurance policy with Blueinsurance.ie. We had purchased the policy last year. The insurance company required that we pay a hefty charge if we went by monthly payment through direct debit, so we made the full premium payment for the year, April 25th to April 25th. We made a claim in mid-April, and received payment, but we did not receive a notice that our policy was up for renewal. They neither notified us by post or by email. As the transactions are all online, we would have no other way to renew but through a mechanism on their site, which I cannot find.

It appears that they are conveniently not notifying us of our need to renew so that they can say we terminated the contract. Is this legal? Do they have some legal obligation to notify us of our need to renew by paying our annual premium, or are they finding a loophole that allows them to drop us as a liability.

I don't whether you are resident in Ireland or the UK. So general advice is to check your policy documents for the complaints procedure. As far as I am aware, Insurers have to issue a notice of renewal about 3 weeks prior to the due date. If they don't, then they may be in breach of any regulations that apply to where you are resident. It is particularly important with some Insurances that Insurers make you aware of renewal, as there may be consequences, if the policy is not renewed. With Pet Insurance, because the policy was not renewed, you won't have cover for the existing condition your pet suffers from under a new policy. If the Insurers did not want to offer renewal or wanted to change the policy terms, they would have to tell you in advance of the renewal date.

We could do with some help from you.

Is this one of the "covered for life" policies - where they will continue to pay out on conditions that have already been claimed on ?

I have moved you into Pets n Vets forum - You will see that Halifax and LTSB have withdrawn from the Pet Insurance Market, leaving lots of pet owners facing horrendous bills for previous conditions, because new insurers will not cover anything that has been claimed on.

Media coverage has pretty much forced Halifax and LTSB to either compensate or continue.
