looking as my previous android tablet was thrown at me by daughter over weekend

No experience wiht this but as I have said in another thread - it depends on how many books you have access to.

Fo me that means it must be Kindle - or Kindle compatible

I don't find it a problem being tied to Amazon. Also, the cover I have includes a very nifty reading lamp. I'm very happy with it.

Which brings us to the op's question. Taking in the above, you need to see what formats the kobo ereader is capable of using and if your type of reading is available in those formats. WH Smiths and Waterstones are good places to look and if they don't have what you like to read but Amazon does, then there is only one choice.

i think it takes epub, ive got a large libary of epubs so thats not an issue, ive also got software to convert to this if its not in this format

went with an ipad in the end...
