I have recently sent a letter to the Halifax asking for a refund of approx £2200 pounds in charges going back to when I opened the account in 2003.

I have received calls today 14.02.06 while at work. On one of these calls an answering machine message has been left by accident, a female member of staff can be heard asking a male member of staff what to say in the call.

The woman first asks the man if they need to go back as far as 2003 the man then asks what I am actually claiming for and states that I will need to provide details of specific charges that I am not happy with and as far as he is concerned all charges incurred have been mindful of the terms and conditions of my account.

I take it they will be calling me again to say the above and would like some tips on a possible reply.

Normally I would encourage anyone to phone rather than to write. But being a bit contrary  I would suggest that you follow up with another letter giving them a deadline and if they happen to phone again in the meantime, then unless they offer what you want on your terms then I would tell them to deal with your letter in writing and on your terms or else they can do the Other Thing.

Then just move on to the next step and then the next until they get it.

I have spoken with Halifax customer relations today (17.02.06) all I got was a woman wittering on about how all banks charge fees and it was all in the terms & conditions of the account when I first opened it.

Also it wasnt up to them to say whether they felt the charges were excessive.

I was then put through to the business centre (after being cut off) who basically said the same thing and offered to put me back through to customer relations and offered me a goodwill gesture of paying back ONE charge and one only.

They also said that if the charges were not errors by the bank they could not be refunded.

Do I now need to take the matter a stage further?

Do I now need to take the matter a stage further?

Only if you would like your money back.

Have you read the FAQs?

I have just received what I suppose is the standard letter of reply saying they will consider my complaints and make a decision within 4wks.

Do I wait or press ahead with a threat of court action?

Hi, if you look in the FAQ section at the top of the forum it shows a step by step guide.

Dave and Bankfodder work tirelssly on this site and Im sure they are getting a bit tired of the same questions.

If you look through the FAQ's it explains the process very well in a simple manner, if you have any queries relating to that feel free to ask.
