Two schools of thought:

1. Write and say you found this PCN on your car but it doesn't relate to any vehicle that you have ever owned.

2. Just ignore it, but keep the PCN so that on the off chance they send you an NTO you appeal on the basis that the contravention did not occur.

2 is favourite.

1) bad advice. Don't write to council

2) correct to ignore but why keep that PCN which is not for your car??? just for information you might have taken PCN off another car(council can claim but you cannot prove it wrong) but remember it's a criminal offence to do so.

Don't write anything to anyone. Wait and wait and wait. NTO (if council decide to do so despite photos having clear VRM) will be send to address on whom the "wrong" reg was registered. Unless.....wrong reg is registered to you. Put it on bin!

Just a thought but do Council Parking Attendants use cameras to take photos of the offence?

If so maybe on checking the photo the correct reg number will be noted and the letters could find their way to the OP?

If it was me I would hold on to it as evidence to show that it wasn't issued to your vehicle, the incorrect documentation would always be a losing point for the Council in court.
