Any chance of having a bit dedicated to landlord/leasing agents/tenancies?

I'm not too sure if it's the same down south, but in Scotland we have no governing body apparently for overseeing the conduct of leasing agencies.

I mention this as I am currently just settling a court case involving a leasing agency that took myself & 5 other tenants to court for unpaid rent. Incidentally if any legal buffs out there fancy a challenge feel free to enquire as to the details as I'm still being harrassed for this and in my opinion have a cr*p Lawyer. Makes for most interesting listening & reading...

 

More to it obviously but a forum for discussion and any support or advice re legalities and interest would be appreciated :)

Lloyds Current A/C DPA sent 7th May 2009 Closed and charges wiped Summer 2010.

 

Barclays A/C DPA sent 4th June 2009: no reply, no correspondence as of 2011.

 

Littlewoods Data Protection Act Section 10 sent 09/06/2006 - Fraudulent A/C closed and CRA data removed November 2006.

 

HSBC Default & Debt wiped March 2009 (6 yr Statute barred reached)

 

RBS - Claim 1 - Settled in FULL £766.00 20/06/2006.

RBS - Claim 2 - Settled in FULL £777.95 08/09/2006

 

 

BOS A/C No. 1 & 2

Amount - £586.39 claim plus 8% interest

SETTLED IN FULL 08/09/2006 - CHEQUE FOR £625.25

There is the "Association of Residential Letting Agents", but it is purely voluntary. You do not have to be a member. Anyone can set up a Letting Agency, there are some exams you can do, but I think it is something that needs to be looked at.

 

The tenants get a rough time sometimes, there are some awful landlords out there.

 

Having said that there are some awful tentants as well. Could write a book about my experiences from working for a letting agent for about 8 years.

 

As for the Leasehold Valuation Service, this was formed primarily to aid residents who live in blocks of flats and hold leases. But I think they may be able to help in some instances.

 

There have been a lot of changes in the last few years and Leaseholders now have rights to manage their own affairs if they feel they are being ripped off by the Freehold Landlord/Managing Agent.
