HI peeps.

I like to watch DVD's on my big screen using my laptop. I currently use a VGA cable which is fine, but does not transfer the audio.

What cable do I need to transfer the audio? Or is there a cable that will do both?

Thanking you for your extremely quick replies:p.

My telly has an HDMI socket, but my laptop doesn't.

most tv's if they have a VGA they also have a 3.5 stereo i/p on the back too just look

then all you need is a 3.5 to 3.5 male lead

typically every TV/monitor gets one free

i bet you binned it?

if not they are cheap enough.

It's a cable with standard earphone sockets at either end.

If in doubt, contact a qualified insured legal professional (or my wife... she knows EVERYTHING)

Tried one of them dx, there is only one hole in the telly that it would fit in (even though there are alsorts of connectors). The hole had a picture of headphones by it, but when I plugged the lead in......Nothing. No noise at all.

There are loads of green black and red holes, but only one that will fit a jack connector like that.

Any tips?

if its got vga its got either a 3.5stereo i/p [and you've not found it], or its got 2 rca phono sockets and you'll need to convert to those

it MUST have an external audio in if its got VGA in.

If you have red and white phonos then you need a lead with 2x phonos to a 3.5 stereo jack.

Or you could use a scart adaptor with phono outs

Theres lots of ways to do it.

Has your lappy got DVI output?

If so, this would be an OK cable to get :-

I think I need the one with one thing on one end and 3 different colour things on the other end.

That seems about the cheapest.

I thought I may have been able to buy a small USB conector which you can plug a HDMI cable into.

I only have one 15 pin output on my laptop, but I thought it was called AVG. That would have been ideal.

It's like this:-

I use that to transfer the picture.

I think one of these will do it, as I have a HDMI cable. I think HDMI transfers the picture as well as the sound.

Only problem is. They are about £12.

The VGA would be your best option for picture quality, that would need a seperate sound input, which is 99% of the time a 3.5mm jack. Another option is to get a good speaker setup and use that for sound instead of the TV as MARTIN3030 said. That would be even better sound quality and you can also play some good games on a decent size screen with good sounds :p

The F and M on the picture above look different than the picture itself?

And I don't have a Hi-Fi system.

I'm looking as usual for the cheapest option.

From the instruction manual, there is a 3.5mm jack socket right next to the VGA port on the TV
