Hi Clio and welcome to the Consumer Action Group :)

Can you give some more details please. This is usually a fee for finding you a loan, but we need a bit more information.

Did you ask them to find you a loan, or were you just registering with them ??

Sounds like Loanfinder up to their usual tricks.

I know it doesn't help Clio, but for anyone else, you should never ever input your credit/debit card details online or anywhere else unless you are making a definite transaction.

I had the same issue a while back. I had to write to them to refund my money less the £5.00 admin fee. They said I could fax the letter to them, which took about 20 attempts as they don't always have their fax machine turned on. I kept badgering them on their 0800 number (at their cost). Finally the fax went through and 3 working days later, I got my refund.

Hi

I have just got tangled up with loanFinder and discovered a fee of £67 taken from my account last month.

I received an unsolicited e mail offering their services which I opened and browsed through. I wanted to find what sorts of interest rates were on offer so worked through the pages and stupidly entered my bank account. Like the earlier person I thought this was about depositing money into my bank! Anyway I got uneasy about the whole thinmg and so exited the website at that point.

I spoke to 'Sam' today who said I'd made an online application and that is why they took their fee. I pressed to see how they could take a fee when a. I didn't get a loan and b. I didn't complete the application.

He stuttered and stammered a lot and explained they were independent so they don't always know whether a loan gets completed. Bla Bla Bla.

Anyway he told me there was no problem getting a refund I have to write or e mail give my full name & address and reason for refund! Maybe thats the get out clause if my reason isn't good enough. Could anyone help compose a firm letter for me?

He gave me this e mail address if anyone else is interested:

customerservices.lf@rgroup.co.uk

I was stupid but this is definately a poor practice and aimed at those with debt issues so our judgment isn't always sound.

Thanks to this site I have started to get to grips with my problems and at least my bank account didn't go overdrawn because of this as it would have a few months back.

Thanks

Just a quick update.

When I contacted my bank last week I found like another person on this thread that a second DD was setup and taken to Credit Extra.

Apparently this is done without your knowledge as well.

Luckily I noticed this while still in the bank and cancelled both DDs.

I sent a letter of complaint to the e mail address above and received a reply immediately after the Bank Holiday. They ignored most of the complaint and just agreed a full refund with no quibble. It will be paid into my bank account withing 5 days.

I asked for assurances that my personal details would be deleted from their system but you never know. My bank said they could technically do the same thing again by setting up another DD with a different reference number.

Hope this helps others.

Report this company to the OFT, the website does not make it crystal clear that they will shaft you for a fee without any guarantee of getting a loan, in fact it says on the front page of their website 'We won't take our fees upfront' !!...!! a quick scan on the internet reveals some interesting stuff !! the guy who owns the group was on Channel 4's 'Secret Millionaire'

Write to them making a formal request for your money back, if they don't then report them to the FSA, The Office Of Fair Trading, and commence a claim back via the Financial Ombudsman....(who will charge the company £450 to investigate your complaint)

Hi Jedam

I used the Customer Service e mail address noted in my first post to send a letter of complaint and a request for refund that way. They have come back and agreed to do this. Meanwhile I have been away so haven't got confirmation yet that the refund was put through. I'll keep you posted.

Sorry to drag up an old post.

I too was almost scammed by loanfinder.co.uk however today I managed to make £24 from them.

On Monday I noticed they took £29 from my account by direct debit. I sent a letter demanding my money back (as like others they seemed to have done nothing for me).

After I phoned Natwest to see if they could do anything and fortunately they were able to refund that money to me as it had came out that day.

The best bit is today not only had Natwest refunded the £29.87 loanfinder also repaid £24 into my account.

I'm going to call it an administration charge and buy some beers tonight on them.

Hi There

Glad you managed to get satisfaction.

I also got a refund it took 15 days. They undertook to repay in full then when it arrived it was £5 short.

I immediately e mailed and asked them to make up the shortfall.

They agreed by e mail but haven't got the cheque as yet.

Keep at them is the moral of the story.

Hi there, the above makes interesting reading, like many others on here I too applied for a quick payday type loan and looked at Loanfinder, like others I too filled in my details as requested for proof of identity etc.

When I got to the bit where it said we will take money if we find you a loan I closed the page down thinking that was the end of it. How wrong could I be.

Checked my bank statement today and loafinder had taken just under 30 out of my bank, rang the bank and told them I wished to cancel a direct debit for x amount which was taken out on x date, the women on the end of the phone at the banks call centre said would that be loan finder, I replied, what makes you ask that, she said that all the banks are having probs with them at the moment, after taking a few details, she told me that the bank will refund the money and they will then claim the money back from Loanfinder, she has also put a stop on my account so they cant get anything else, but will look out for Credit Extra as someone mentioned above.

Hopefully, I need not do anything else, and my advance thanks goes out to Yorkshire Bank.

I just received a £5 cheque in the post they said it was an admin charge??

I am interested to hear that you also thought you'd closed the page down once personal details were needed. I began to think I'd gone mad.

They are totally unscrupulous and it is odd that they seem to take different monies from different people.

Watch out for Credit Xtra it appeared 1 month later on my account.
