you should have two memory stick slots so you can add another 1GB or to be future proof if the mainboard will allow take the 1GB out and put two 2gb in

 

You can run SiSoft Sandra that will tell you what you have inside the case once you have the make and model of the mainboard type that into search and it will tell you the maximum memory capacity.

You need to know the operating system before adding memory. If it's 32bit (x86) then it can't address more than 2gb of memory. You will need a 64bit operating system for anything above that, so don't just say you want 4gb memory without finding out if it can use it.
