some help please.....

My Oh only uses the PC to play games on Pogo. Only on one or two games the games freeze. ( using vista)

 

have done the normal - clear caches etc and checked java.

 

was advised to use firefox - have done that and it has improved but not resolved it

 

i have used the EA sports tool which checks compatability etc and everything ok there

 

any ideas?

 

another question - when i go to the control panal for java and go to default browser for java the Microsoft is ticked and not mozilla - i thought it would mozilla but it does not allow me to change this.

 

any help appreciate cause he is getting on my wick shouting at the comp

i would be inclined to download and run ccleaner [there also tools etc on the other menus]

 

i would also reset ie back to its original settings

You say it's a new PC... Most new PC's (since June) offer a free upgrade to Windows 7. Take a look on the manufacturers website!

That's low, especially for Vista.

 

Right click "Computer" and select properties. tell us the processor aswell.

It's probably an onboard graphics card too?

If OH wants to play games he'll need to put in a good quality graphics card with its own dedicated RAM.

The PC is a bit on the basic side.

 

 

If you want to add more memory, do a search for "crucial memory scanner" and it will tell you exactly what memory sticks you need. Also, you can then use pricerunnner / kelkoo / google shoping to find the cheepest memory sticks that you can use.

I'd also suggest running mozilla firefox browser (search firefox) and then download java from sun microsystems (search sun microsystems java) and try pogo on that browser.

It says that the basic vista needs 2 GB of RAM to run at it's fullest so I can't understand why they bother in the first place. My laptop is only 512mb of ram which is half yours and I have the same problem on Pogo. The main problem is that Java (along with the adverts you have to endure on Pogo) take up a hell of a lot of RAM. I would make sure you have no other applications running at the same time.

 

If your security decides to update itself or perform a scan, then you can forget Pogo for a bit. And woe betide if Windows decides to install updates whilst in the middle of a game.

 

Otherwise, Pogo rocks. I'm after the Mahjong Garden badge at the moment.

theres a small computer shop in which is quite cheap compared to the others. would it worth it taking the base unit to him and adding more ram and graphics card?

Definitely, assuming it's onboard graphics which are only adequate for basic surfing and WP, usually. If you tell them what game he plays they'll advise.
