This made me smile this morning:

A cow escaped death when it fled a New York City slaughterhouse on Wednesday, running through the streets before being corralled by mounted police.

The escape appears to have earned the cow a free pass, it will be turned over to an animal care agency rather then sent back to the slaughterhouse in the New York City borough of Queens, police said.

I was talking about Switzerland with my 12 yo (as you do) and was saying that it takes 3 hrs to cross sideways, and it would only take about 1 hour to cross it the other way if it wasn't for the big lake. He said they could build a bridge and I said that no, it is a BIG lake, they even have ferries going across it.

He looked puzzled. Then as the conversation went on, it became apparent that he thought I had said "fairies", not "ferries". No wonder th epoor kid was confused!!! :-D

That made me chuckle all right. :-D
