  1. Hey, I got insurance through Jet2 when I went to Santa Ponsa last April - My laptop was stole on the first night in the hotel - They denied it and said nothing was stole from the hotel before (Yeah right...) - Quite ironic as while he said it 3 Spanish girls came to the desk and said their money was stole from their room. I got a police report from Spanish police ( I went with the Spanish girls and they translated ) When I got back I phoned Jet2 - They said the insurance wasnt through them but a different company, I dont know how many times I have phoned and they arent helping. I also have insurance from Argos but I dont think that covers theft. It was a brand new laptop that i had for maybe a month, I know it has been a long time but I have been waiting for them to either do a refund or replacement but nothing is happening. Can anyone help me with what my options are please? Thanks for any help
  2. Evening. On Christmas eve i ran into the back of someone else. 100% my fault and because of the holidays the car couldnt be inspected until Jan 8th. It is perfectly drivable. Took it to local repairer that esure uses and it needs front bumper, front cross member, both wings dented and both headlights. Had to call insurer twice to get dates to get the car booked in and was booked in tomorrow 26th. The repairer has called to say that the courtesy car has a fault and we will need to wait till thursday. Not much of a problem as things like this happen but i had arranged a day off work and not off until the weekend again but they are closed. Although they are a large dealer/repairer they cant give me any other car. So the next date is now the 2nd week in Feb. I have been very patient in waiting in the car being booked in but this is too long for me now and want my car fixed as this is what we pay insurance for. So i have a few questions. - The repairer is Lookers (landrover) and after searching online, they probably wont be using genuine parts. My car is a 5 year old Vauxhall. Should i be concerned about this. Should i chose my own repairer as usually when there are problems (with me anyway) at the start there will be more to come  Ive tried to call esure but have been on hold for 30 minutes and fed up now. ta
  3. My bedroom walls are being water damaged and progessively getting worse and worse, the plaster is now falling off in sections. I've had a builder come out to lool and they have told me the adjoining roof of the house next door is damaged and thats how the water is coming into my bedroom. The insurance surveyor came out to look and sent the report to the insurance company (time of writing its now been 4 weeks) after me having to daily chase up the insurance company I have now been told, they will pay to repair the water damage to the interior of my house BUT they want me to first some find the contact details of the landlord that owns the empty property next door, before they fix the water damge (because the neighbour has to fix his roof, to stop the water coming into my house) The insurance company is telling me to contact the council and tell them the neighbours roof is damaged and water is coming through the neighbours house and damaging my walls. The only thing I have found on the land registry is the names of the 3 people that own the empty house next door which is in a bad state, they are no other details like phone number, so i can't ring the owner of the house next door and ask him to repair his roof and once thats repaired the insurance will will then repair the my bedroom walls. It looks like my insurance is asking me to do their work and find the owner or they just want to drag this on and in the mean time my house is being damaged with water whenever it rains because of the next door neighbours house roof which needs to get fixed to stop water coming into my house. What can I do, I can't sleep in the bedroom anymore because all the walls are damp and wet. Is it not the insurance jobs to locate the owner of the house next door and ask them to repair his roof? then the insurance can repair my house? please help me, i feel like crying
  4. Hi I was involved in a minor car accident recently and the third party decided to go through insurance as i hit the back of his car and theres no DAMAGE!! . So i put in a claim through my insurance and they asked me a series of questions. They asked if i had any penalty endorsements and i said yes, i got a SP30 on 15 July and took out the car insurance on 18 July...anyway i didn't declare this. When i explained to them what happened at the accident i mentioned i was on my way to work and my insurance is only SD&P. It just came out my mouth, i was really on my way to work but i wasn't driving to work, i had to drop the car off first to my husband and then i was getting public transport. So now I'm thinking they will say i lied about the use of car just because something came out my mouth that wasn't correct. I was involved in a accident and the third party driver was intimidating :'( . Not only this on the policy i said that the registered keeper is my spouse. Now let me explain that part, the car is on finance that my brother got for me and my husband. I was suppose to change the details over to my husbands name but it just skipped my mind. Now the insurance company are probably going to invalidate my insurance and might not even pay out the third party. Im dying thinking of this, I'm waiting for the underwriters to get back to me. Has anyone been in this situation if yes i would love to hear from you. Or does anyone know what can happen??? In worst case scenario if they void my insurance will i go to court, will i get a ban???? Omg I'm feeling depressed at the moment its on my mind 24'7.

  6. I have, I hope, a quick question regarding the subdivison of the cost of Building Insurance for a converted house. The house has been converted into three flats two downstairs and one upstairs. the upstairs flat occupies the whole of the first floor and is two bedroomed and the two ground floor flats occupy less than half of the floor (though they both have a rear extension). Is there a general rule for proportioning the cost of the Buildings Insurance for each flat and does the leaseholder pay towards the cost. regards eeeni
  7. Halifax What was Halifax’s response? Did it review the premium and reduce it to reflect the prices that other people were paying in the market? Oh no. What Halifax appears to have done is reopen her former mortgage account with the bank, then charge the insurance premiums to that account. Halifax then continued jacking up the price every year, to a vastly inflated £800 at the time of her death – a figure her son says is around six times the going rate. The final insult was that Halifax charged interest on the unpaid premiums, making ever more profit out of its elderly, loyal and vulnerable customer. Full Article Nationwide The case of a retired London professor, John Stanworth, is among the most egregious. He lectured on business ethics and social responsibility, one reason he stayed with member-owned Nationwide for 40 years. Nationwide’s home insurance is provided by Direct Line, which in recent years raised Prof Stanworth’s premium to £1,100 for cover he could find elsewhere for about £300. Worse, when he made a £3,850 claim for flood damage, the loss adjusters reimbursed £400. Full Article Rias So how did RIAS repay Burton’s trust? Anyone who has been reading my recent columns about the rapacious behaviour of home insurance companies when it comes to loyal, older customers, won’t be in the slightest bit surprised to hear what RIAS did. In the early years it shoved up the premium by around 15% a year, then by 30% between 2014 and 2015. Yet throughout the period Burton had not made a single claim. Indeed, he is an almost perfect customer for an insurer, having not made a claim since 1977. Yet in the space of five years RIAS doubled his premium to £345 Full Article Saga It came out of nowhere. With no clear explanation, a retired academic saw the insurance premium on his second home leap by 56% – even though he has made no claims and the house is in a sleepy countryside village. When Philip Jones* called Saga, which insures both his London home and the holiday home, to pay his premium for this year, he was told the cost had jumped from £280 to £436. His experience echoes that of other Guardian Money readers, and reflects an ongoing problem in the industry whereby some insurers have been accused of taking advantage of loyal customers by bumping up their premiums, sometimes via automatic renewals. Full Article Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) Millions of people should enjoy cheaper insurance after the City regulator announced measures to tackle the problem of companies bumping up the premiums of loyal policyholders. The rule change will mean that all renewal letters relating to motor, home, medical, travel and pet insurance will have to clearly flag up the amount the customer paid the previous year alongside their quote for the coming 12 months. Full Article Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) Consumers who pay for car or home insurance in monthly instalments are being charged interest as high as 75%, according to the Financial Conduct Authority in a highly critical report on the £18bn-a-year industry. Nearly half of all households in Britain pay for their insurance in monthly instalments, but many are not told the high cost when buying online. The FCA tested 43 insurance and broker websites, including the major comparison sites, and found that 19 did not tell the buyer in full about the additional cost until they had to enter their payment details. In four cases, the interest charges were not displayed at all. Full Article
  8. Whilst helping out with the paperwork after my Brother-in-law's recent death we have come across a so-called Accidental Death Insurance policy taken out through Barclays Bank, we know he made 141 payments @ £8.50 per month. We've been in touch with Stonebridge asking for details of the policy and we're still waiting for the info to arrive but have reservations as to their selling techniques. We know he went to buy a policy that would specifically cover his funeral plan, he had already been long-term diagnosed with COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disorder) with Emphasyma had fully explained this when buying the policy in Barclays Bank, his daughter was also present during this process. Does anyone please have any advice as to how we should proceed with this, if at all, or wether we have a case for misselling?
  9. We're looking at buying a tumble dryer from Currys and have been offered a warranty extension for 5 years for £50. Has anyone done this and is it worth it?
  10. Hi I wonder could anyone give me any advice please. A friend of mine took out a life insurance policy in 2005 which included critical illness for any children from 30 days old until 18 years old. In Dec 2015 her 15 month old only child was diagnosed with Leukaemia. She wanted to claim on this policy for her child only to be told the child wasn't covered until she was 3 years old. On checking other insurance companies they all offer cover from 30 days old. Is there any statute with insurance companies or can they all choose there own terms
  11. Hi, I bought my parents a UK coach holiday and, as they're both pensioners, travel insurance which included cancellation cover as both have had illness in the past. Unfortunately, a direct family member became ill a week before they were due to travel and they decided to cancel the holiday and visit her instead. The family member sadly passed away 2 weeks later. The insurer sent out claim forms, these were completed and returned along with a death certificate which was required. Last week, the insurer wrote back requesting additional evidence for the deceased, namely the completion by the deceased's GP of a long winded complicated medical form? The cost of which, needless to say we have to pay. Is this fairly standard? Or, is it a ruse by the insurer to find a way to avoid paying the claim? If it was either of my parents that became ill, I could understand a medical form being required, but for a family member?? Thanks for your help, any advice would be appreciated.
  12. Hi Lost my phone today (booooo) and I thought I had insurance. I renewed my phone contract online and don't really remember what it said. I do. however, have an email from O2 saying documents attached detail my cover which is lost and stolen. O2 are saying my cover is only for accidental damage. Any idea where I stand with this? I have to take the emails etc to an O2 store to prove to them what they sent me but they are denying I have Loss & theft cover. Any idea where I stand on this? I have the email from O2 saying I am covered.
  13. not sure i will like the advice on this one but got to ask as its brother in law he recently brought a car on finance that broke down in first week - no issue garage repairing it unfortunately he has just had the curtesy car seized by the police basically from the details i have got so far he allowed a friend to drive it police followed it home because it matched the description as a reported stolen it wasn't stolen however they then checked the details of driver he was not according to data base insured for the car hence car seized he MAY have insurance for other cars third party - this is unsure as he had two insurance policies on different cars police only checked his taxi insurance at this point B-I-L is unsure if friends other policy is in force as friends other car seized due to fatal accident so friend may have cancelled B-I-L has been told even if he has third party insurance it wont be valid as he did not have permission from owner of car simply permission from authorized user B-I-L has been warned that he faces court and fine at this point im not sure what for as he was not driver Curtsy car has been impounded with £150 basic fee + £20 a day B-I-L is going to garage tomorrow to get note showing he is insured so he can get it from impound, is it worth seeing if can get note stating any driver was insured as garage owner is acquaintance of B-I-L and if so will it make any difference
  14. I have a friend who was contacted by his insurance company due to a claim that he was in an accident and wrote off someone's car. My friend was not in an accident and so following investigation his insurance company rejected the claim. I've seen the photos of both cars, my friends car has not been in an accident, and the other car is an old banger with a bumper literally falling off. It might be worth mentioning the party making the accusation consist of three men who all have suffered from whiplash. Now it appears that the fraudulent party are now going after my friend directly, he got the following corespondence from his insurance company: My friend is obviously terrified having never been involved in legal proceedings other than buying a house. Can anyone layout what he can expect? I've told him he's got nothing to worry about as this false claim has been thrown out by the insurance company and you can't prove something that never happened. Practically can he refuse to cooperate as it is a waste of time? Is he obliged to do anything? Is it time to get a solicitor or will the insurance company assist as they are involved? Thanks for any advice. Any questions I'll relay and get back to you.
  15. http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/car-news/65567/best-car-insurance-companies-2013 I'll add my own experiences with swiftcover through and beyond this period start 2013 - start 2015 It was initially very difficult to contact them if you had doubts or problems with 'self management' at the start, but by the end of my time with them, the email contact had improved massively and the responses were good rather than just a response referring you to the premium rate number as it was at the start. The self management online changing of features/cars was effective and penalty/charge free and gave no shocking increases in charges as a result, and in one of the cases resulted in a reduced premium with the difference speedily paid back into my account. I did not need to make any claim, so cannot comment on that side of their service. I left due to increases in basic renewal premiums/cost, parhaps due to the increased cost in customer service. No issues at all with leaving. and the 17 years NC was on the renewal offer and confirmation available for download from myspace on swiftcover. They also apparently confirm to other companies on request - per Hastings Direct.
  16. Hi, bit of an odd one this, about a year ago I agreed to my accident damaged car to be written off. The insurers instructed a salvage co to pick the car up. After failing to come and collect the car on 3 occasions it is still sat on my driveway!!! Yesterday to my astonishment I received a letter from the insurers saying that as I had retained salvage of the car I now owe them circa £150!!! and are threatening legal action if I don’t pay up!!! so I thought I’ d best get some advice off you guys. I don’t want the car and about 8 months ago I offered to have it removed but was told not too by the insurer. TBH the car hasn’t been in the way and I had forgotten all about it as so it seems had the insurance co’ I though Someone said I could counter claim on the basis that they have left the car on my property for so long.. .I’d be delighted if they could remove the car! http://static.consumeractiongroup.co.uk/forum/images/smilies/shocked.gif
  17. Please forgive me if the terms aren't 100% correct. Different insurers do their calculations differently, but this is my understanding of the basic process: No Claims Discount, normally rated in years, is a discount given which insurers apply to your actual calculated 'rate' or risk. Different insurers use different amounts for the years earned - no consistency. Your Rate or Risk is calculated based on some industry calculations tailored by individual insurers, which consider what is the likelihood of having to pay out to you, and is based on many factors including age, location, what you are insuring, and whether you have had any losses/accidents previously among many other things. The premium (what you pay) is the rate or risk calculation, with any discounts, including no claims discount, applied. So in the example of car insurance, an accident will increase the base calculation of your 'insurance' rate or risk. Any discounts, no claims or otherwise, are then applied to the amount calculated. Example: Insurance before accident with NCD = £200 (your risk calculation) - 40% of £200 no claims discount = £200 - £80 = £120 to pay Insurance after accident with protected NCD = £400 (your increased risk calculation) - 40% of £400 protected no claims discount = £400 - £160 = £240 to pay Insurance after accident without protected NCD = £400 (your increased risk calculation) - 0% of £400 no claims discount = £400 - £0 = £400 to pay Protected no claims discount protects the percentage of discount applied to the base risk calculation and is not protection from an increased basic risk calculation and hence increased cost of cover. Hope this helps in understanding. More info http://www.confused.com/car-insurance/guides/how-car-insurance-is-calculated
  18. Hi there, I have a huge issue with this insurance, my motorcycle was stolen from the college car park and Hastings direct claim that my insurance does not cover going to college. I had this motorcycle for a few months, and when speaking to their representative Im sure they as you for the purpose of using your vehicle. I mainly used it to get to and from work, as I cannot afford another car (mrs has one). When I asked for explaination they said they will back to me, but never did. I must also say that I have never received my policy booklet, nothing, so I didnt have chance to verify it. At work my friends are saying that going to college isnt like work, its your pleasure, same like you going to watch football every week. I didnt even use this motorcycle to go to college on regular basis, because of a huge traffic in the morning. My other friend advised me to speak to my MP, a local newspaper, watch dogs, etc. and all them saying its disgusting what Hastings Direct did to me. If possible would anyone give me any tips what to do and do I have any chance fighting for my rights? I feel completely disappointed with my insurance, really thinking I was naive to believe in honesty of this insurer who I did not change for past 3/4 years!
  19. We received an email yesterday in respect of this company. The person provided his name, but no return email address in order for us to respond. If you see this message, please do register on CAG - it is Free and update this thread.
  20. I hope someone, anyone can help me Background motorcyclist in front of me losses control, drops bike in middle off the road, im behind him and go straight over the top of him, result, both bikes totalled, he had busted back, I had minor injuries. He admits total liability to Aviva (his insurers), my bike is 7 weeks old and cost 10k new, insurers offer me 7.5k.. in the meantime my loan bike from my insurance company goes bust, I get pulled by ANPR for no insurance, luckily because BLD have stickers all over the bike I get off with it, that is first issue against insurers...... Next, I believe as the first registered keeper pf a less than 12 month old bike I should have a new bike because of this non fault accident, I have claimed against my own company with a view that they will then claim on the third party, I am been told this is not how it works(by my insurance) at present the other rider who caused the crash has been paid out for his bike, but because mine is a new bike and I only got offered 7.5l and have refused the whole claim is in deadlock. The point I am making with my insurers is that they were quick enough to tell me when I took out the insurance that my bike was not covered while on my driveway ( I stated it would be in a garage) but they failed to inform me that my bike was not covered by a "new for old" policy... any help/advice on this would be real helpful, any questions please ask Thanks Steve
  21. Hi, I recently brought a small claim online against a large insurance company (following a recorded delivery warning letter giving them 7 days to respond, which they ignored), they did nothing so when the appropriate time had expired I applied online for judgement against them, specifying I wanted the full amount, plus interest, costs etc, paid immediately (the original loss for which I claimed was 6 years ago). I now have the judgement as of 30th September, and confirmation arrived by post from the court yesterday. The MCOL service show the next step as to issue a Warrant, but it then states that this is only possible for claims up to £5000. The judgement is between £5,000 and £10,000. So, what would you recommend is the best way to get them to pay up? I'm looking for the easiest, rather than specifically the quickest method (though the quicker the better obviously). Thanks in advance for any help.
  22. I have been insuring my kit car with Adrian flux since 1980, in 2004 I insured my Pajero, I recently changed the Pajero for a newer 4x4, as I had 6months to run with my insurance I stayed with Adrian Flux, big mistake! they told me that my current insurance company wasn't the best for the new vehicle and recommended cancelling my remaining 6mths and getting a 12 mth policy with Aviva, they are the experts? so I complied. they allowed me £140.00 pounds for the remaining 6mths and charged me a further £326.43 a total of nearly £470.00. I then went on line and checked out various comparison sites. Should have done this first I know. the first site I checked was Adrian flux £275.00, the next was Aviva £324.00 various others including Hastings Direct which had better cover, lower excesses and was only £279. I got back in touch with a view to discussing the problem and after being passed around 3 different call handlers I was told a manager would ring me back, as I was going to work I said it would have to be before 10:30am and was told no problem I would get a call back before then, surprise I didn't. I then contacted them when I returned with a view to cancelling my policy and was told I wouldn't get the £140 from my previous policy as I had agreed to cancel it and the money I would get back would be the £326.43 minus handling and cancellation charges. I explained that although I was very unhappy with the situation it appeared that I was stuck with them for 12months at which time I would not be using them again ever, nor would I use Aviva as they had the bad judgement to use Adrian flux as a broker. Sorry Aviva. When my kit car insurance is up for renewal I will also be using a different broker. I have been driving for 43 years without a claim and stayed loyal to Flux for the last few years , PS I still never got to talk to a manager. they also took payment from my credit card without me reciting the number, how is that, I thought they weren't allowed to record such details. Rant over, but be warned you can't trust them.
  23. Hi, This is my first post and I am looking for some advice. I was in a car accident some years ago and the other parties insurers asked me to deal directly with them and they would pay for all my repairs and provide me with a courtesy car etc. They sent me a courtesy car from a company called Drive Assist who then went into receivership shortly afterwards. Because it all happened over 3 years ago I thought it was all done and dusted and had forgotten all about it. A couple of months ago I got a call from a debt collection company explaining that Drive Assist had gone into liquidation and that the other guys insurers had now refused to pay the debt folk for the hire car they promised to pay for. They asked if I would help them etc and I said yes. They have now started to threaten me and tell me that I have to pay the debt because his insurers have refused and because I signed a credit hire agreement and that I am now liable for the debt. They say that I must have hire the car from Drive Assist directly not via his insurers etc. I have a letter from his insurance company that states they will pay for my repairs and supply me with a courtesy car. The debt company say that I refused the courtesy car and went to Drive Assist myself to hire it. But all the literature on the net says they deal with insurance companies etc being an accident management company I feel that I am being conned etc by all of this big time but I can't afford a solicitor to fit on my behalf. I am really out of my depth here. Can anyone help please - I am desperate. Many thanks MM
  24. I need an urgent advice please. I originally lived in Hampshire a few months a go I moved to Birmingham for a new temporary job, rent a place there and failed to update the address on my car insurance. Even though I was fully insured with the option to drive other vehicles the police invalidated my insurance on the spot and seized my car. The policeman advised that the MIB cancelled the insurance. I now received a letter where I need to choose between guilty (£300 fine and 6 points) or not guilty and go to court. They treat me like someone who had no insurance at all. I called the MIB on 01908 830001 and they said that they have no power to cancel an insurance policy so I am confused about the whole situation and the right steps I need to take from here. Any advise would be very helpful please.
  25. Hello, I may need some guidance please. Last Wednesday I was travelling home from work, came off an A road onto a slip road which leads to a roundabout. There was a queue of traffic waiting to enter the roundabout. I joined the queue and was stationary when a vehicle behind me failed to stop and ran into the back of my car with quite some speed. I was propelled forward and almost hit the car in front of me., luckily there was no impact as my car came to a stop before hitting them. The guy who hit me got out of his car and stated he was sorry and accepts full responsibility. He gave me his name and an insurance company but stated he had no ID and no insurance documents on him, he said he didn't need any details from me as he accepted full responsibility. I took a photo of his car and registration plate with my mobile. He apologized and drove off, almost causing a second accident by nearly missing a van that came travelling up the slip road. My car has considerable damage to the back, the bumper is cracked, the rear passenger side wing is coming off, the number plate and number plate light are broken, the boot hatch is dented and I cannot open the boot anymore. I have neck and shoulder injuries and now have got a tinnitus in both ears, the doctor hopes it should settle again over time and is a whiplash type neck injury which can also cause the ringing in both ears. I have TPFT cover on my car and phoned my insurers to start the claim, when I gave them the details of the other car it came back as uninsured, the details he gave me were false. They said they couldn't help me any further but going by the damages described they thought for insurance purpose my car would be a total loss. (10 year old Ford KA). I since got an estimate from a local repair garage for £300.- to fix it though (the same garage I originally bought the car from and the guy said he would do me a deal as I think he felt sorry for me to be honest, so he said he'd do it for £300.-) I also reported it to the police who gave me details of the MIB, I spoke to them and downloaded a claim form which I have filed out and returned today. Ha anybody got some experience what is happening next and what I can expect to be the outcome ?
