  2. I've been trying to get information about a mortgage my husband had with the Northern Rock from the mid 1980s to 1998. He was sold PPI and home insurance and was told he had to buy it from them as they wouldn't give him a mortgage if he didn't - the usual story. I remember ringing them about the insurance in the early 1990s as it was absolutely extortionate, very expensive and much more cover than he needed for a two-up, two-down terraced house. We've looked everywhere for the paperwork but think we must have lost it when we moved house six years ago. I rang the solicitors we used and they said they only keep records for seven years, they weren't interested anyway! This week I got a copy of a bank statement for the early months of 1998, just before we sold it, but there aren't any payments to Northern Rock from it and we can only think we must have paid it in our local branch office. I've already contacted N-RAM who replied very quickly to say that they had no records of anything in my husband's name! I haven't sent a data request as I don't know the mortgage number. It's become a bit of a challenge now, there must be records somewhere. Any help on ways of getting further information would be very welcome.
  3. Hi Please, can you help me? I got into terrible debt many years ago. Abbey tried to repossess my house after a court hearing, but I sold it in time for not much profit. I had loans and credit cards outstanding and I got a CCJ for one of my credit cards who charged me a lot of PPI. It is seven years down the line and my Experian credit score shows clear. What I want to know is, can I reclaim PPI on all my mortgages and loans and credit cards from over the years? I know my CCJ is still enforceable, but this card was the main offender. Thanks
  4. Hi all Had a credit card with MBNA since December 2001. Couple of months ago thought I would just check on the off chance that I had PPI - couldn't see anything when I looked online at my account. I went through the MBNA website and lo and behold it says that my account has had PPI from the minute the account was opened in 2001. Went through the claim and was given the 8 week deadline for a response. Had two letters from them confirming that they were still working on it. Got to the deadline day and decided to call them. Was told that indeed my claim had been upheld and that a payment was due of £576.48. I queried this amount and asked how they had made the calculation. The guy couldn't tell me but obviously had a script saying that with this amount my account would be back to normal. Not being satisfied with that I called again that day and spoke to another guy who again gave me no info. I asked if he could tell me how much each PPI premium was worth and what interest it had been rated at. Nothing. He said that he had no access to such info. Stewed on this and called again next day and spoke to a lady. All of a sudden she could supply me with all the info I needed, interest rates, actual premium amounts. On me remarking sarcastically that I couldn't understand why MBNA would bother sneakily cheating me out of less than £600 in 17 years. Didn't seem worth the bother. She then said that the PPI had been closed in March 2003 on this account, as per written request by me, the customer.?????? This was clearly a lie and alarm bells started ringing. The script kicked in perfectly again - "most people don't remember what they did some 17 years ago". I obviously asked for a copy of the letter to which I was told that we no longer have such a thing on file. Very convenient! I am alleged to have written cancelling an account that I still didn't know I had 17 years later. I told her that I smell a rat, based on the calculation she had presented me they could owe £15-£20k. Would make sense to try and blag me. She told me to send in a cheque for £10 and a request for "SAR" which she claims would show every single detail on the account from day 1. But now I don't trust them nor anything that they send me. Today I received the cheque which clearly I will not bank. Does this sound right to anyone? In two emails, two letters and then two conversations with their office nobody once mentioned that the PPI had only been for just over a year and that I had cancelled it in writing. Has anyone else had an experience like this? Feel like they have me over a barrel. Help!!! Thanks
  5. I have been playing snail mail ping pong with Nat West for several months now. I took out a gold card/ current account with them at the beginning of the nineties and closed the account in 2004. I was involved in bank charges litigation with them up to the end of 2006. I'm unsure whether I had PPI on this account and so I sent a letter to their PPI complaints department. They said that they weren't able to locate any account details and that I should send a SARN to their data protection department. They were unable to locate any data either. I supplied them with address data and details of where I held my account. Nat West have suggested that they would routinely destroy data six years after account closure which means that they would have done so in 2010. Given that PPI claims entered the mainstream in 2008, I am surprised that NAT West and presumably other banks have been able to destroy data that could well have been used as evidence. I would be interested in knowing whether anyone has recently been able to obtain credit card/ current account data more than six years after account closure.
  6. Please can I have some advice, my dad applied through a company for ppi, sadly 2 months later he unexpectedly passed away, we received notification he was due a payout from Lloyd’s bank after his death and duly received a cheque in his name , the estate has been passed to my mom, to whom Lloyd’s reissued the cheque in her name, the ppi company are demanding their charges be paid, Lloyd’s suggested we do not pay them as the contract was with my dad not my mom, where do we stand on this, if it is owed they will be paid, but if not legally required obviously we would rather not , many thanks
  7. Hi all, Hoping for a bit of advice about a successful claim that my step-dad has made. Bit of background, My mum had a stroke just over 3 years ago and lost the ability to speak, along with most motor skills down her right side. It was at this point that her partner of 17 years, to all intents and purposes my step dad, became her full time carer. Earlier this year he told me that he had been getting cold called regularly by a PPI reclaim company and had eventually relented and agreed for them to look into his claim concerning a loan he had taken out with Abbey National decades ago. He informed me that it was on a flat fee of around £40, at which point I voiced my disbelief and asked him to get me the details so I could look into it, which he followed up with a text a week later telling me that the company was called Professional Reclaim Services. I completely forgot about this until earlier this week he informed me that he had some good news and some bad news about his PPI claim with Santander, the good news was that he had been awarded £12000 and the bad news was that Professional Reclaim Services were actually charging him 39% + VAT!!!! So my question is can we do anything about this extortionate charge, which will result in him losing around 50% of his award? I have no problem paying a fair rate for a fair service, but he obviously did not understand that this was the case. Any help/advice appreciated.
  8. Hi I had a loan over 10 years ago so decided to check if am due any PPI back, firstly I contacted a few companies who say they do a free check but then when you speak to them you find out they want a percentage if you are due any money. I went to my bank directly to find out, thought how hard can It be. I have a credit card also with them. They have sent me a PPI questionaire that I have fill and return within 14 days. It is really detailed about the sale of your PPI policy, use of the PPI policy, about the money borrowed, personal saving, employment status etc etc Anyone got any experience of these forms, do I need to fill them all in? or can I just walk into branch as them to help fill them in? thanks
  9. Feeling like I could do with some advice please. I have had 2 PPI's that HSBC have agreed to pay out on. I sent all the forms back on 16th Feb and was told that the offers were sent out to me that week. Nearly 7 weeks on and I have still had nothing in the post. I have been chasing weekly and have been promised calls back on 8 occasions. Can someone give me a direct email address of the head of complaints who deal with PPI at HSBC? With a husband who has been out of work for 8 months, this PPI payouts really will ease things for us and was hoping that they would have been in out account by the end of March. Any advice I'd be so very grateful for. Thanks in advance.
  10. Hi everyone, Ive had nothing but top advice when Ive previously used the forum - so here we go. I defaulted on my nationwide loan in approx 2010 - due to redundancy. Balance roughly 8k. Nationwide took proceedings against me and got CCJ for about 9k - enforced via a C/O that remains on my property. No payments being made as its interest free. I have had 2 loans in my life with them - 2nd was for 15k that paid of the last bit of my fist loan for about 8-10k I cant remember exactly. I have just had confirmation that there was PPI in these loans and nationwide are due to respond to me by 10/04. Heres where it gets messy... Nationwide are currently in the process removing the CCJ and charge because they never should have taken proceedings - due to them not showing interest on statements. They have advised once removed they can ask me for the initial debt but they cant legally pursue me (time barred now perhaps?) So I'm wondering that should I be successful with a PPI claim what are they going to do with the money - remove it from the balance ? Also here is a perfect example of why PPI was a rip off - I didn't know I had it and they sued me - they didn't say here make a claim on your insurance! I'm wondering if I should see a solicitor and if people agree does anyone have a recommendation in greater Manchester. Thanks for reading and advice needed please.
  11. hi all. can anyone help. I had a 3000 loan with ulster bank (RBS dealing with it) of which 435 they say was PPI. the loan was from 2003-2006 and i think the interest rate was around 13%. Can anyone work it out. Also i had a burtons card (santander dealing) were they offered 406.90. the ppi paid was 174.06 and was from sept 2004 to to 2006. they have reconstructed the account from 2004-aug 2005 as they said they have no transaction history. but they do have the transactions from 2005 onwards. I have sent of a SARi. Can anyone help. Thanks
  12. Hi everyone, I am about to make a claim against the above. I have received claim doc from BoS to fill and return within 14days. Does anyone have any experience of filling the form or claiming against them, so I do not make an error. They have sent me questionnaires for loans and credit cards Also, I have previously claimed bank charges from welcome finance and capital one some years ago. I have lost all the paperwork. Can I still claim PPI against them, and does anyone have their address or know how to make the claim. All advice is highly appreciated.many thanks
  13. I naively filled out some PPI claim online Pemberton Associates ages ago, gave all info I had to hand. “Electronically” signed all documents. Was sent something in the post which was lengthy, eventually completed & returned. Cut a long story short but I started getting A LOT of emails from this company. Regarding all sorts of things, claims against pay day loans, claims against all sorts of things, there was that much I lost track. I was only ever really interested in PPI and I assumed everything I filled in was to do with PPI. I got a final response saying once they’ve checked my credit history there’s only two companies I could claim against - one being a mail order company (which I owe a mere £80 and the other being my current account, which at the time was overdrawn) I replied saying I didn’t really see the point in perusing a claim against these for the reasons above. To which they agreed. I then started getting emails regarding some payday loan I took out a while back, asking me to send them a copy of some letter. I had no idea what they were talking about and told them this, on top of the fact my balance was zero I didn’t understand why they were looking into it. Fast forward a few weeks and they’re now saying I’ve breached the contract and that i’m Liable for cancellation fee’s if £360 for each company they originally persued (sure there’s about 12 all together) The guy who was emailing me was horrible, very threatening, making out like I was lying, saying they’ve now realised I’ve breached the contract for a second time as I’d not returned documents (this isn’t the case - I’ve returned everything I’ve received) I was getting no where with him, ended up leaving a lengthy yet honest review on trust pilot to which he replied saying if I didn’t remove it they’d sue me for damages. Cut a long story short he reckons he’s issuing court proceedings first thing tomorrow. He’s literally not left me alone all night, threatening all sorts, telling me I am liable for court costs on top of the damages and fee’s already mentioned. Apologies for any spelling errors, currently in the middle of something & frantically trying to explain myself on my phone! Any advice greatly appreciated!
  14. Hi- I had an HSBC credit card from 1998 to 2011. I read in other posts that people who opened a credit card this period had PPI on it I was able to find some statements from as far back as 2004 but I can't see any reference to PPI on them. Would that be included in the interest charge ? Should there be a separate charge for PPI? Is there anything else to look for on the statement that indicates PPI? Any advise would be appreciated. - Andy
  15. Hi I am wondering if anyone has had any success with singer friedlander for ppi claims, as I have just found the paperwork of an old car finance agreement, saying i had actually paid ppi. The problem being who do you go to,as SF were taken over by close motor finance then other companies i believe. Any help much appreciated. Thank you Bruce
  16. Hi just went on MBNA website as i credit card back in the late 90s with them , i have had a response saying yes it did have PPI on it and then they want me to fill in their own questionnaire. Is their a templete letter on here which will do a better job of makinag a complaint and what is the best process to follow. I am also doing the same for PPI with A Morgan Stanley(now Barclays) card and a peoples bank now Citi bank. I believe that all these cards were obtained via pre filled in application forms and included the PPI on the filled in application forms. Thanks in advance for any help
  17. Hi There, I am new to this site and need some advice please. I have recently submitted a PPI claim to Natwest in respect of PPI. I sent them a copy bank statement (dated 1998) depicting 'Credit Card Repayment Protector' being deducted at GBP30.67 per month on a balance of GBP4151 per month. I rang them and they have stated that this is CPP and not PPI. I know that this is not the case and have told them that. Any advice at all please and thanks? I have been informed that a rough calculation is that the PPI would have cost 77p for ever GBP100 outstanding on my credit card balance each month. Therefore the monthly payment of £30.67 on a balance of circa £4151 seems to suggest I was indeed paying the above insurance premium. Whereas NatWest CCP Credit Card Plus cost £36.99 a year
  18. I had a personal loan from 1999 which had PPI on it. I didn't request PPI but the box on the CCA had a pre-printed tick in it. On challenging the PPI, Paragon claim the loan wasn't dependent on PPI and that they weren't regulated at the time so I have no claim against them. The FOS haven't been much help. I've read a thread by user justice4me from 2012 where they managed to successfully make a PPI claim in much the same situation. Does anyone have any information regarding what is needed to successfully make a PPI claim against Paragon? Cheers, OMWO
  19. Hi, Wonder if someone can point me in the right direction. Back in December 2004 (Paragon have quoted Feb incorrect below copy of their letter) my wife and I took out a £20k loan, and this loan had the mandatory PPI of £7k on the paperwork. With news of the Plevin judgement I approached Paragon and they have said the are unable to uphold my complaint and if unsatisfied to approach the Ombudsman. Is there anything I can do? can I even ask for the commission rate of the PPI? any help much appreciated Many thanks, Dusty Our investiqation ln the case of Plevin v Paragon Personal Finance [2014], the Supreme Court indicated that commission in some circumstances could result in an unfair relationship between the lender and the consumer, under the Consumer Credit Act 1974 (Act). However, for the unfair relationship provision of the Act to apply, the Credit Agreement had to have been taken out on or after 6 April 20A7 or, for an agreement taken out before 6 April 2007 and be ongoing as at 6 April 2008. As your loan was taken out on 13 February 2004 and was redeemed on 23 January 2006, your complaint is considered ineligible under the Plevin judgement. Our decision. Based on the above information. I am unable to uphold your complaint. Whilst I appreciate this may not be the response you had hoped for, under the terms of our complaints procedure this is our final response. You may have the right to refer your complaint to the Financial Ombudsman Service, free of charge - but you must do so within six months of the date of this letter. Paragon PPI letter 250118.pdf
  20. I complained to Creation and just confirmed that I've had a payout of just over 3k from them in relation to PPI. Had to escalate to the ombudsman, but just received the cheque today, happy days!
  21. could anyone give me some idea who to send my goldfish credit card PPI claim to. I've sent one to Barclaycard but they say they have no record of a goldfish account in my name. I gave them my card number and got the same result. I had my Goldfish card from around 1995 to 2000. it has been closed now for a number of years. but I am still paying the debt off at a very small monthly rate to a debt recovery firm. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. pigeonman16
  22. I had my home repossessed in 2009 due to a change in circumstances. The mortgage was with HSBC who marked the debt as 'settled' on my credit file in 2011 although I owed them money. This was removed from my credit file at the start of last year since it had been 6 years since the settlement date. I am certain that I had PPI on this mortgage. If I try to reclaim this PPI will it awaken the debt? I have seen the rule of 6 years for standard credit card and loans but wondered what would apply to the mortgage?
  23. Hi there. Just on the off chance my husband sent a request to Barclays to see if he had PPI on any of his cards. It turns out he had it on his Barclaycard Mastercard from Sept '97 until Dec 2004 and on his Barclaycard Visa from Sept '97 until Aug 2015. What would be our next step forward please? Thank you.
  24. Hi there. I'm new to this site and wondered if someone a lot cleverer than myself could help out. We have recently been told by West Bromwich Building Society that we could have been mis-sold PPI . I have looked at all the paperwork and we had PPI with them for 2 years between 2000 (when we took the mortgage out) and 2002. I see for the firstyear they paid it for us and the second year we carried it on of our own free will. I do wonder if we'd made a claim during that year whether it would've paid out though as my husband was self-employed at the time. I'd really like a copy of the terms and conditions when I rang the mortgage company the lady didn't answer my question and said all I needed to do was make a complaint and they would look into it for me. I don't know as I'm really happy with that though as they could make up any story about the terms and conditions at the time and I'd be none the wiser. Am I being cynical here or not? Is there any way I can get a copy of them? The other thing I stumbled across when looking through the paperwork was that we had building insurance with them for the first seven years of our mortgage. On the conditions of offer letter it states we had to have the policy with them for 5 years and then when we changed to another fixed-rate mortgage in 2005, we had to have it again for a further two. Should they have made it compulsory to take out with them? When I spoke with the lady she said with regards to paying the insurance for the first 5 years we would have to take the issue up with the broker who recommended the mortgage to us and for the other two years it had been our own free will to choose that fixed-rate package with those conditions attached. Does anyone know if that seems right or not? Many thanks in advance.
  25. Hi everyone - haven't been on this forum for ages which is probably a good thing as it means I have no problems that need solving, but need to use all your brilliant advice again. Got a letter from Direct Auto Finance saying I could claim for PPI, they sent a form and also asked for copy of my agreement (which I did have, think was from 2012) filled it all in as we were conned, I remember the sales guy saying we had to take out PPI otherwise we could not get the car without it even though it was over the amount we could afford and kindly left the room for us to "talk about it". Had no option so signed on the dotted line. The total amount of PPI on our finance agreement was £1018.97. Got the letter with breakdown from them today and they have agreed a final settlement of £219.75. What I would like to know is does this amount sound fair or should I appeal. The only reason I don't want them to get away with it as looking back the salesman had no right to say we could not get the car without it. My brother has bought me a ticket to go to New Zealand over Easter to see my nephew so would be brilliant to have some extra money to spoil him. I have attached a copy of the breakdown. PPI.pdf
