Over the past six months we have been receiving a lot of unsolicited cold calls from Indian call centres offering secured borrowing to reduce outgoings. The nature of the calls have been quite high pressure and have happened at all hours. We have been wondering where our details have come from as we are ex directory. The picture suddenly became clear last week when this letter was received from Loans.co.uk

Dear .......

We recently learned that information relating to you may have been among certain data sold to third party loan companies without Loans.co.uk permission. We have reported this incident to the Police.

The information that may have been provided included your name, address, telephone number as well as details in your Loans.co.uk application from such as the requested amount, the purpose of loan, your date of birth and your mortgage details.

We believe that information may be used by third party loan companies to contact you to market financial products. We are not aware of the information being used for any other purpose. Alathough there is a possibility that your information could be used to cmmit what is known as ''identity fraud'', we believe it is unlikely.

We apologise for the incident and any concerns or inconvenience that it may cause. As always our priority is the security of individuals information.

To provide you with peace of mind and at your option we will provide Credit Expert from Experian for the next twelve months. You will not be charged for his service. ou ahve until the 12th October 2007 to sign up for this service.

We have also attached a list of precautions you may find helpful in protecting your personal and financial information generally.

Yours sincerely

Julieann Greer

Managing Director

Can people effected not make a complaint to the information commissioner regarding loans.co.uk as this seems a massive breech in the DPA98.
