I am a self employed Painter and Decorator, have been with the Bank of Scotland for about 28 years. The last 10 have been an absolute nightmare.

I have struggled to stay in business due to ever rising bank charges.

I have been charged about 1000 pounds per year for ex/od charges and returned D/D charges. I have had countless arguments with my banking manager regarding giving me a larger overdraft, if I had an overdraft of 500 pounds I would never incur eny ex/od charges or returned D/D charges. The Bank seem to think that an overdraft of 250 pounds is fine for a business with a turnover of about 36,000 pounds.(I have 1 employee).

I recently asked the Bank to refund 6,700 pounds which they had taken since May 2000.

They wrote back asking me to accept 325 pounds in full and final settlement.

They have given me 8 weeks to accept.

They also informed me that the Unfair Terms and Consumer Contracts Regulations and the OFT decision do not apply to business accounts.

Can anyone advise me on what to do next.

Many thanks,

Scott.

Hi and welcome to the site.

Stick with it. Business charges are dealt with in a slightly different manner, but are still completely refundable. Don't let them push you around.
