hiya.

was just wondering if anyone has a template i can send to argos asking for my charges back as i owe £1425, when the amount id spent on my card is only £900 so the rest is charges and if i dont pay £60 a month they put more charges on, when i told them i cannot afford this much.

so i would like all my charges back but have no idea where to start with the letter.

any help would be much appriciated.

thanks jemma .

What have you actually asked them for, and what action have you taken so far?

Was this the preliminary request for payment giving them 14 days to reply? When did you send it?

You should have sent your LBA 3 weeks ago. Read up on the FAQ's again so you know what you need to do. In the meantime let Argos know in writing that you are disputing their figures, and that should hold them off while you get yourself sorted out.

With an Argos acount it is just the charges for late payment etc that you can ask for isn't it.

Is Interest on the card a different matter as all I seem to be paying off is the HUGE interest rate (my fault really as I was in a hole one xmas and was the only option available to me)

Can I claim for such a high rate or not? Thanks

You could try phoning them and asking for a lower rate. It works with some of the credit cards, but not so sure about store cards. I doubt it somehow, but if you don't ask you don't get.

Why would you be able to claim for a high rate?? You agreed to it!

Probably the charges were agreed at the same time but as they don't represent their cost they are deemed punative.

I can't wait to see if someone ever manages to get the interest rate on these store cards deemed extortionate and then the floodgates would open very wide.

PUTTING IT IN WRITING & KEEPING COPIES IS A MUST FOR SUCCESS

I might be wrong on this but I think the OFT either are, or plan to, look at store cards interest rates.

Even if the interest rates are deemed extortionate these companies will probably be able to claim they have some semblance towards their costs due to customers defaulting, having to sell debts on at a loss etc etc - you won't get interest back or huge numbers of businesses will go bankrupt
