This morning my clutch went on my car, gonna cost over a grand to fix, doesn’t seem reasonable to do it on a car with such high mileage (180k miles 110 of which I’ve done since taking out the finance 3 years ago). Also have a fog light surround broken, hit a pheasant a week or so ago on the way to work, easy fix by myself for 30 or so quid.

My question is,

having paid over 50% of my total amount payable, if I VT will I be legally responsible for sorting the clutch and any bumps and scrapes on the car?

There’s a couple, no major damage.

I don’t mind fighting MB if need be but I’d rather not fight a losing battle.

Thanks in advance.

Edit: car is on HP if that helps, all I’ve found online so far seems to apply to PCP if I’m reading it correctly

PCP is the same thing all covered by the Consumer credit Act.

you could VT yes, and they might well try and have you for repairing the clutch, but you could most probably wriggle out of it,

they wriggle out of £1000's buy not repairing THEIR VEHICLES (as they are on HP! so you dont own it) when things fail that were wrong at sale that they should  not be making the debtors pay for, though yours ofcourse is diff as 80k done and 3yrs down the line.

So I’m most likely going to end up liable (in their eyes) for the cost of the clutch at the very least? I suspected as much. I’m going to ring them first thing and see if they’ll be of any help whatsoever, highly doubt it but I need this resolving, thanks for your advice!

well just be aware mb will lie and make up their own rules as they go along.

its always best never to ring always write only.

why dont you send of the vt request and say nowt

see where it goes.

though i would suspect that upon collection the guy with a flatbed will do a few checks.

unless you offer to drive the car to mb's designated place as long as its not miles and miles away

you've found the mb forum.

so read a good few threads here too.

Vehicles basically a non runner atm cause of clutch😂 so wouldn’t fancy driving it to them. I’d personally say clutch having gone would be fair wear n tear on a 180k car but maybe I’m being unrealistic. I’ll keep an eye out for their lies. I’ve been reading posts here all morning and this along with some articles online I atleast have an idea of the ways on which they’ll try and bullshit me!
