Hi all, I have had a hard search carried out on my Equifax credit report.  I have no knowledge of this company and I haven’t applied for any credit recently, neither do I have any bad debt.

 

  On speaking to Equifax they have raised a dispute but I also asked them for the contact details of the company and they said they don’t have any.  
 

i have also tried google, ICO, FCA, Companies house and I can’t find any info.

 

would any of you have any contact details for this company?

First thing check the other agencies, you can get info on Check My File for nothing on all four.

 

You need to fill in the complaint on Equifax, it is a pain to do, but.. Ask for the identity of the person who sent the data relating to the search, if they dont comply get a free list of all activates on you account under GDPR. 

 

You could try a call to them first, you never know

Thanks dodgeball, I have checked the others and there is no searches on any of them.

 

i have already complained to Equifax I was just wondering if anyone on here would have any contact details for them so I could speak to them and find out what they are playing at.

So this is a case of an illegal search?  How could I progress this?

unlawful not (illegal = criminal.)

 

if none of his 'forward' companies are currently registered, (I can't find them on the fca register but go check.)

 

then companies he might hold directorship of are not registered on the consumer credit licence fca register so cannot search your file and should not be allowed to.

 

the cra will have a hidden record of the ccl licence number used to do the search

I called them yesterday funnily enough to cancel my repeat authority. I found the service to be over complex and slow TBH.

Equifax DX, repeat payment authority payment. the number is their customer service line.:)

 

Ring em, they will sort it, eventually. Do yourself a cup of tea before you ring, you will be on hold for at least half an hour.

The OP wants details of a phantom unauthorised search, yes?

I was hoping that someone on the forums would recognise the company and have a contact number for them so I can contact them and find out what they were playing at but it seems the company no longer exists in that form.

 

I will be persevering with equifax’s incompetence and see what they come back with.  I have raised a complaint, a dispute of the data and also emailed their DPO reference this. I am also considering a complaint to the ICO for unlawful processing of my data.

 

i will update you all when/if I get any update.

Yes, indeed they are slow, and do try to fob you off. But they would have had to had confirmation of their authority to do a hard search.

simply ask Equifax for the Consumer Credit Licence number of the firm that searched you.

Credit Protection Services  were removed from the FCA CCL register in 2015.

FCA are the ones to complaint too, however FCA don't take complaints from the public. nor reveal if they are being investigated

 

equifax should not have allowed the search to happen if its CPS as they have no licence to even access your file!!

however, the searcher might have used another number but it still shouldn't be recorded as by CPS.
