Council Tax - Jacobs Enforcement Agency Demanding Money

Hi there,

 

I moved from Welwyn Garden City to Bristol last year for treatment purposes in relation to my health.

I failed to notify Welwyn Hatfield Council of my move initially and there was an outstanding payment of council tax for £78.

With costs this is now £462.49

 

I have Marstons at my door.

I am dealing with tons of things at the moment.

If I phone the council payment telephone line and pay off the £78 and the council costs, which make a total payment of around £150 would that help my case,

and would it look good if the bailiff returns the debt to the council? 

 

I have been instructed not to open the door to the bailiff and also told that eventually he will return the debt to the council.

I hope this is the case.

 

Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

If you clear the council tax + costs then, if there are only the enforcement agent fees remaining, the agent can take civil action against the fees if they so wished.

Email your local councillor from Welwyn explaining your situation. explain your situation (including your health) and there is a better than 50% chance the balliffs will be called off and fees cancelled .

Yes dx100uk that's what I'm doing right here in this forum. I'm not sure why you persist with this unhelpful and somewhat antagonistic attitude.

DX is saying that the councillor will investigate the whole thing, without you having to go through an army of drones at a call centre and a jobs worth in collections.

 

He's not telling you to investigate the whole thing.

 

Councillor is highly unlikely to clear the actual Ctax but Highly likely to wipe the Bailiff Fees.  It is also possible that you will be able to come to an affordable arrangement on the CTax itself.

Don't pay anything until the bailiffs have given up and returned your account to your council. Keep the doors locked and don't let the bailiffs in. If you pay now, some of that money could be given to the bailiffs to pay their fees.

Thanks for the reply. It's funny you mention that because I decided not to pay anything at this stage. However, how will I know when the bailiff has returned the account to the council?
