Sickness benefits claimants won't have to go through reassessments to keep their payments if they suffer from chronic illnesses.

A good start but plenty still to do. I have emailed the BBC at the end of the article because they are asking for peoples experiences on ESA. Won't do me any good but anything that might help those in the future is worth a try.

Crikey, never thought I'd see that. From a personal perspective, it's promising. But, as already noted, this should just be the start of sensible commonsense reform. Here's hoping.

So they want votes do they, They can promise the earth but if they don't get on and deliver a full brexit they won't be wining any election, after all this is what it's really about votes

 

They will no doubt be more stringent at the WCA if that is possible , they lets not forget are talking about killing off the Appeals tribunal service , So this may be meaningless for the majority

I nearly forgot according to that report by Sky news, Corbyn appears to be claiming credit for this ? I see that he appears to have conveniently forgotten that it was his predecessor Teflon Blair that was responsible for this ESA mess it was his government that scrapped Incapacity benefit, and its( PCA )personal capability assessment and replaced it with the Not fit for purpose WCA and ESA, the limp dims and Tories just made things even tougher on Britain's sick and disabled , which has probably waisted more money than it has saved them and also resulted in several unnecessary deaths along the way under the guise of welfare reform

The Devil is in the detail, no one knows what chronic illnesses will be included, or excluded.

Theresa May is regarded as a liberal conservative, she's got one toe firmly in the water, and a finger tentatively on the pulse.

The spin doctors will dismiss terms like 'backtrack' and 'u-turn' and substitute them with 'policy change'.

May ostensibly seems like an even handed person, but one must always bear in mind that she's a Tory, and we know what their track record is like.

Well, we could say that Corbyn might have any number of bad qualities, but I don't think "slavish devotion to the principles of Blairism" could fairly be said to be one of them.

A full list of conditions exempt from reassessment has not yet been put together, but it is thought it will include Huntington’s disease, congenital heart conditions and autism.

 

The DWP will work with health professionals to consider the final list of those exempt.

 

 

Yet Conservative ministers still intend to cut the amount of money given to some recipients of ESA from April 2017.

Those in the “work-related activity group” thought to be unable to work currently but capable of making some effort to find employment will have their ESA payments slashed from the maximum payable to them of £102 to £73.

 

In response to the scrapping of constant reassessments, Sue Bott, the deputy chief executive of Disability Rights UK said: “We welcome the news today that people with long-term conditions such as MS will no longer have to go through repeated assessment for ESA

 

 

There are no end of illness/disabilities that are progressive - it will be interesting to see what gets left off their list ?
