Hi, I couldn't get to the bank before close of business last week to pay a cheque in. It's a barclays account and I paid 100 in and from what I can work out it won't be cleared until tues - I have a direct debit due out tomorrow and not enough cleared funds to cover it. Does anyone know if barclays allow direct debits from uncleared funds? Thanks in advance

Well cancel DD agreement tonight like... NOW!!! Wait for cheque to clear and pay them on tuesday while setting up a new DD agreement. :)

Should help sort the issue out.

We could do with some help from you.

DD will already have been sent. It just clears 2-3 days later. Youd have to get it returned via the DD guarantee.

Any advice i give is my own and is based solely on personal experience. If in any doubt about a situation , please contact a certified legal representative or debt counsellor..

If my advice helps you, click the star icon at the bottom of my post and feel free to say thanks

Hi SW,

As the DD will have already been instigated by TT, it will either be paid by the bank, or bounced. Probably depends on your history and relationship with the bank.

If the former, the bank may charge you for paying the DD from uncleared funds.

If the latter, the bank will charge you for bouncing and TT may, or may not, charge for their failed DD payment. See their article here - https://help2.talktalk.co.uk/my-direct-debit-has-been-rejected

If this is a one-off mistake with the bank and they hit you with a default charge, I'd ring Cust'r Svs and ask them to refund it as it was a timing error on your part. If this has happened a few times in the last year, it's probably not worth making the call.

Is it possible you can put enough cash in your account tomorrow to clear the TT DD?

Most banks allow this now

Great idea if SW has the cash but it'll still depend on the timing of the DD pay't.

Good luck SW !!

My current bank (Halifax) advised that most banks allow this now as DD's arent bounced back until the close of business on the day the DD is due
