I purchased a Morphy Richards steam iron from Amazon back in July 2013.

The iron has now developed a problem it's tripping the mains,

checked the warranty on the Amazon site which states:

*Standard one year guarantee can be extended to 3 years by registering your product with Morphy Richards.

It seems that I forgot to register the iron when it was first purchased, but why offer a 3 year guarantee when you register a product?

From now on I will make sure every new electrical goods is registered..

That's quite a good question actually.

I wonder if it's because Morphy Richards are gaining information on their customer demographics, contact information and such.

i.e. They are getting something of value and give the customer something back in return (perceived value or otherwise).

Regardless, you have rights under the Sales of Goods Act 1979 for up to 6 years after purchase, in respect to faulty goods. Fair to argue an iron should last longer than 20 months, with normal household usage. Excercise your rights with the retailer you bought it from and get a refund/repair/replacement.

SOGA is your friend here

though if it was purchased online then this helps too:

please don't hit Quote...just type we know what we said earlier..

DCA's view debtors as suckers, marks and mugs

NO DCA has ANY legal powers whatsoever on ANY debt no matter what it's Type

and they

are NOT and can NEVER  be BAILIFFS. even if a debt has been to court..

If everyone stopped blindly paying DCA's Tomorrow, their industry would collapse overnight...
