I tried to log in to renew my licence. Was asked for my Gateway number which I had, but could not remember my password. Forgot your password? no problem, just click on the link to get a new one.

 

 

Clicked on the link as I have done on other sites, expecting to tell them what password I now wanted. Big problem, if you have forgotten it, all you have to do is fill in three questions asking for previously stated memorable names etc.

 

 

Now surely, if I cannot remember a one word password, why would I remember three other words? More to the point why does it matter? It's not as if its my bank account, if I have the Gateway number which can be checked to my address, why can't the new password confirmation be sent to my e mail address like most other password driven sites do?

I had the same problem with Google. Couldn't remember password or the memorable data requested at set up. So now, they wont let me access google mail, etc.

 

When I tried to set up a new account, it told me I already had one!!

Its not just DVLA, HMRC are at it too!

 

They sent a Tax Return form to me in Russia then won't let me apply on-line for a Authentication Code because their system will not accept a non-UK postcode!

 

So I cheated a bit to try to resolve their problem. An Authentication Code was sent out, but (as I have regularly been telling them for 5 years) the way they mail stuff, it took over 6 weeks to be delivered here. Fine - except the Code expired after 28 days.

 

A couple of weeks ago I spent nearly an hour in a phone queue (at £2 per minute!) to be told to "apply again".

 

You couldn't make it up if you tried!
