Hi All

I've just joined because Google came up with you when I searched for global Debt Recovery Ltd.

I've received a letter from them out of the blue today claiming that they are appointed by as agents for recovery of £47,751.74.

Their client is quoted as being Experto Credite.

I don't owe this money.

It looks like a similar amount that my insurance company settled with the finance company when I had a serious car accident

which wrote off the car last year,

but I can't be sure it's that.

The finance company weren't called Experto Credite that's for sure and it was showing as paid in full on my credit report.

Should I ignore the letter or write to them asking them to prove it?

Cheers

Hi welcome to CAG,

This seems a very large amount for a DCA to be chasing, such a large debt makes one wonder why it has not been through the courts.

Does Experto's letter state that it owns the debt or are they acting for a 3rd party?

Yes approve it letter is the next move, include the phrase " I do not acknowledge any debt to Experto Credite or any company it may claim to represent.

Any Letters I Draft are N0T approved by CAG and no personal liability is accepted.

they want money for their xmas party

and have chosen to try and mug you

on a debt that doesn't really exist

just remember that a DCA IS NOT A BAILIFF

they have

NO SUCH LEGAL POWERS.

I can assure you that if you DID owe an amount so large

the OC would have had you in court themselves pretty pronto!!.

it is also telling

that this is one DCA chasing a fake debt for another DCA.

also always a very good sign they are on a fleecing exercise.

quite honestly I'd be ignoring them.

Thanks for the welcome.

I'm certain I don't owe this money, but it's suspiciously similar to an amount that once was a balance on my credit report. That account was settled last year though so may be a coincidence.

After a few more posts I'll upload a scan of the letter and a snippet of that part of the credit report showing the two similar amounts, but also showing it was settled.

Do these firms get hold of old records they believe to be still outstanding and try to get the money?

If it sounds similar to the sum that your Insurance company paid out - it might be worth having a word with them to confirm that they did indeed pay the finance company ?

It is also a bit of a concern that the company didn't make any contact, but simply sold it on to a Debt Purchaser and by the looks of things.. is messing with your credit file at the same time.

Hopefully this one is readable:

If you look at the amount, it almost exactly the same as one of the outstanding balances on the credit report,

but that report also shows that payments were made after that,

reducing the balance and it was eventually settled in full so maybe it's just a coincidence.

I'm suspicious about the vague nature of the letter and a mystery creditor. Is it just a fishing attempt?

I think it probably is a phishing attempt.. however my concern is that they have these details in order to do this anyway. The account is clear and the original company should never have involved this lowlife !

It's not the same as the amount the insurance company paid out.

It was the same as the outstanding balance back in Aug 2012

but payments were made subsequent to that until the account was then settled with a lump sum of approx £40K.

See the snippet from the credit report. It's the last but one amount from the right.

I'll write a prove-it letter in the morning and send it via a signed-for service.

What's a good template to use please?

There is one in the CAG library.

Ensure that the phrase " I do not acknowledge any debt to Experto Credite or any company it may claim to represent".
