Hi All,

I recently noticed that my economy 7 meter readings are the wrong way round

e.g. my night time reading is the day and vice versa.

If corrected this means i will owe around £1000!

I have been entering my own reading online for 3-4 years now and believe i must have somehow switched the reading

when they were both similar although im not sure.

Is this solely my fault?

someone comes round every 6 months or so and checks my reading shouldnt they have noticed?

Thanks in advance

DCA's view debtors as suckers, marks and mugs

NO DCA has ANY legal powers whatsoever on ANY debt no matter what it's Type

and they

are NOT and can NEVER  be BAILIFFS. even if a debt has been to court..

If everyone stopped blindly paying DCA's Tomorrow, their industry would collapse overnight...

Can you just clarify please - is it that the meter has been incorrectly installed or is it that you have read the meter incorrectly.

Installing meters the wrong way round is not uncommon

I believe the meter has been installed correctly. How could it have been installed incorrectly? It looks like an error on my behalf but im not 100% sure.

  • 4 weeks later...

The supplier may have got mixed up when the meter was changed / when you moved to your current supplier / moved into your home.

Are the numbers displayed in a digital format on your meter, or not?

Is there a number beside the readings (eg 1 and then 2). Often, suppliers get mixed up as to which is the day reading and which is the night.

Hi blharry

Here's some info:-

http://www.energy-uk.org.uk/component/jdownloads/finish/43-code-of-practice-for-accurate-bills/412-the-code-of-practice-for-accurate-bills-back-billing-for-domestic-customers.html

If you want to check when they physically called to check the meter, you can send them a SAR request, it will cost £10, they have 40 days to respond. They will send you data for the last 6 years.

First step would be to take a read, boil a kettle or something then take another read, that will establish which rate is which.

I believe that it should fall under the billing code so the most you would have to pay would be 12 months worth of catch-up charges.

Do you use the economy 7 to it's potential i.e. do you have storage heaters? if not it might be worth having a single rate tariff
