I had purchased 2 lenovo g580 laptops from Argos at a cost of £349 each

for my 2 daughters in October of 2012.on starting them up one of them failed

as it looked like the graphics card had went, after a while it seemed to be

OK but after I had tried to update the laptop it stopped working totally.

On taking it back to the Bathgate store explaining what was wrong with it I

was REFUSED a replacement and told it would have to be sent away for repair

even though it had only been 1 week from purchasing them both for Christmas

presents which would have meant NO Christmas for my daughter.

With determination I demanded a replacement on these grounds "consumer

rights" unfit for purpose much to the annoyance of the store manager who

said if it was up to him I would not be getting it replaced, which I could

not understand as he was the manager, surely he would be more than able to

help a paying customer.

Eventually it was replaced in store.

The 2nd Lenovo Laptop stopped working all together on the 15th February 2013

I took it to the Bathgate store and they sent it away for repair saying it

would take up to 16 days for return.

I called the store on the 16th day (Monday 8th March) to find out about the

return of the laptop from being repaired, fully realising that it had not

been sent away till the Monday 18th and also the 16 days quoted were for

WORKING days.

The store tried to "fob" me off saying that the 16 days were not up till

another 3 days but I had the dates all calculated and knew I was right with

the dates, they then said they would call me back and NEVER, so I called

customer services next day and they issued me a replacement number to take

to the store and they also called the store to speak to the manager and "in

their words" were not happy with the attitude of the manager, while on the

phone to customer services the store called my house phone and my wife

answered it to be told by the manager that he knew NOTHING about this and it

was the first he had heard of this case, also he said that the repairs were

waiting for parts or something, very vague answer I thought.

Then I was told by customer services that they would be calling the store to

say I was on my way and was to be issued with a replacement, but I received

a 2nd call from customer services saying that the store was REFUSING to

issue a replacement stating that the 16 days were not up even though I had

the proof they were.

The next day I had had enough and called customer services and demanded that

they order the store to replace the missing laptop which they agreed as it

had went to far, they issued me a replacement number and said to go to the

Bathgate store and get the replacement, I said to Kim from customer services

that the Bathgate store did not have a laptop with the same spec for to

replace mine and the only store that did was Livingston retail park to which

she said that would not be a problem and make sure that I had the receipt

and replacement number to do so.

When I went to the store they REFUSED to go ahead with the replacement as I

did not have the other laptop for to give them, I tried to explain the story

to them and they called Kim and she denied telling me it would be OK even

though the call would have been recorded.

The outcome is that after spending over 1 hour of getting very angry and

annoyed and making many many calls to customer services, one of the customer

services managers saw some light and authorized the replacement with the

other laptop to be sent by courier to Livingston on return from repair.

Then on the 7th of march 2013 the 1st lenovo laptop which had previously

been replaced, screen exploded while my daughter was using it and I

witnessed it as she was sitting right next to me doing her university work,

I took it back to the Bathgate store and they just looked at me and took one

look at it and said that something had been put on the keyboard with the

screen shut over it thus breaking the screen!!

I tried to explain that I had witnessed the screen going and that this had

not happened as she is 19 NOT 9 years old and she needed this for her

university work, but they just looked at me and said they would be sending

it away and stating that I damaged it, so what chance will I have if the

store is going to state that I damaged the screen intentionally ????

I showed the store manager that the screen was broken on the inside and that

there was no damage to the outer screen or casing that would back up their

wild accusations of us doing malicious damage of our own but they were

determined to blame us.

The inside of the screen was all broken but there was no damage to the

screen surround or outer casing.

I received a call from Argos Bathgate on the 14th to say that they have a

quote for the repair of the laptop screen of £110, which I refused to pay

and said for them to send it back either to me or the store undamaged and I

will be checking for to see if there is any other damage to the laptop.

I can purchase a new lenovo matte screen for the laptop for £60 and fit it

myself in under 10 min's but why should I for a fault which occurred by no

fault of mine.

Also I researched the fault and it came up with quite a few people who had

the same experience as me with the screen just exploding internally!!

I received the laptop back from the store un-repaired.

I am not happy at all with the treatment I have had at these 2 stores and

after many years of using Argos for numerous purchases will not be using them

as a company ever again.

The outcome was i purchased a new screen for £40 and done the repair myself in under 15 mins, big difference from £110 !!

I will never use Argos again.

SHOCKING TREATMENT!

You are not entitled to a replacement on demand. It is the sellers choice of repair, replace or refund.

in the end the manager gave me a replacement. So I am happy at that as I stood my ground against the treatment of the staff in the store. If it was not for the way they spoke to me I would have been happy about waiting fir a repair but I will still not use argos's services ever again :)

as for the screen this isnt something you will want to hear

but its very hard to prove non-accidental damage on these

only way to prove otherwise is from an indipendant engineers report, which often with screens is very inconclusive

might be cheaper to source and fit a replacement screen, G580 is the 15.6" screen i beleave, its also an LED screen which makes it cheaper, your looking around £30 for a replacement screen
