your employer has a duty of care under the working time directive so needs to know if you are working elsewhere . They also have a right to stop you working somewhere that would bring them into disrepute or be a conflict of interest eg for a competitor

Never assume anyone on the internet is who they say they are. Only rely on advice from insured professionals you have paid for!

This - plus, sometimes there is a blanket ban on having any second job at all.
