I am lookinf for a house to rent so I can move out of my parents house. but have discovered that my dad has a CCJ at the family home where I currently live. would this affect my chances when a credit

check is done on me.

To add to what cerberus has just said, you can join one of the credit check agencies for a free trial and check your own credit history. You'll need to remember to cancel the direct debit after the 30 days or whatever the trial period is.

I could not credit while living with my parents because of my mums credit history. I did not have a financial link to them but as we shared the same surname at the same address they showed up on my credit file. I had to write a letter to Experian stating that i had not got a financial link to my parents so they would be taken off my credit file. It worked and I since had lots of credit.

That was back in 2000 so maybe its different now but you should contact experian to find out.
