Hi. I am currently having trouble with comet.

My 50 inch tv had screen problems ( red dots everywhere)

I called comet and they sent an engineer who booked it to be picked up so it could be fixed in their workshop.

After about 2 weeks it was delivered back to us and when I was about to clean it ( it was full of hand prints )

I noticed a scratch on the screen and it was wobbling on the swivel stand

I called the costumer services again.

They sent an engineer again and he booked it in for another repair in their workshop.

after 2 weeks they called me back to say that they can't get hold of the parts so they will be replacing it.

They then say I will only get £439 the original amount I have paid for it.

Now there is no way I can get a 50 inch plasma with 4 hdmi,( and all the other specifications my old tv had).

Am I right to think that because their delivery service had scratched the tv that they should be giving me a tv

which is almost similartp my old tv without me having to pay excess?

or not?

I am not sure what my rights are here, so I came to ask.

Thanks in advance.

Kris

Hi sweetkris ,

I am slightly confused here , what was the make and model of your Tv that had all these features ? 4 x HDMI sckts ect ect , also a 50inch Plasma Tv it would seem .

Am I correct in understanding you paid £439 for this Tv as your post states.

You do not mention if your Tv was bought as new from a retail store, from an auction site or indeed from one of their clearance centres or how old it is , but this price seems very low indeed , it does seem a great buy at that price.

COMET are agreeing to cover the cost of a replacement Tv to the value you originally paid which seems fair enough .

Where the confusion for me is the cost of large screen Tvs are getting less and less all the time with specification getting better but in your unfortunate case it seems to be the other way round where unsurprisingly a similar sized Tv with similar specification will be hard to find anywhere at all for a cost of £439 which it would seem was the price you paid .

That said if COMET damaged your Tv which they have admitted to it would seem , they should be replacing it with a like for like specification Tv, similar or better than your original bargain purchase.

This is the point to where you have to push them .

We do know that "COMET Response" monitors these forum threads and do tend to reply from time to time .

I do think further purchase information would be required also as the original details are rather vague .

There may be some very small print somewhere regarding your purchase.

I maybe have misunderstood your post and the £439.00 was the extended Warranty Cost you paid .

If that is the case it is then a whole different can of worms , please let us know .

I bought a washer machine from comet but after only 5 weeks it broke (around xmas time of all times). After nearly an hour on the phone i eventually got an engineer booked (at a cost of 29.75p/m).

I told them the error code i had received and if i was the engineer even i would have known which spare parts/replacements to bring with me as i had looked on the internet for possible faults. Low and behold, he didn't have the part he needed despite me having a recorded call advising it would be fixed on the day.

Anyway, i emailed the MD and just received a call from a representative.

She advised the person who advised it would be fixed on the day - shouldn't have. No help to me though is it!

Bottom line is...nothing would be done differently or faster. There was no point in actually making the call other than to acknowledge the complaint.

When i advised i would continue to write on every review site i can find that still did not prompt her to offer anything by way of satisfaction.

I will never purchase anything from them again. I'd rather pay more money for an item somewhere else and receive a better customer service
