Evening all, Having a pretty rough time with wonga and got no idea what to do. They have taken £1190.00 from my account today.

 

This was for a loan of £400 taken out 3 months ago. did 2 rollovers wich took it to £850.

 

My hours have been cut at work so couldnt make a payment last month, i rang them to make an offer of £50 a month and they declined this and told me it would go to debt collection.

 

They have been adding intrest at about £150 a week for the last for weeks, I got payed today and they have taken everything!

 

any ideas what i can do?

 

The collections woman said nothing about this when i asked her what would happen

As you haven't cancelled your debit card they will raid your account even if you think you have an arrangement in place - they are ruthless ! Unfortunately you will not get this money back now unless you can convince your bank that the money was taken without your authorisation (not easy, but worth a go) - if you have a Visa debit card you can ask for a charge back as you did not give permission for that amount to be taken from you account.

Cheers for the reply, are you saying they do this quite a bit to people? i cant believe a genuine company can get away with this..

 

Yes, I'm afraid they do - they set up their system to automatically try and collect money every day until they get what they want - if the whole amount doesn't go through when they try for it, they then try £50.00 at a time. If you read around the Payday loans forum you will see this has happened to lots of other people. The only way to outwit them is to report your card lost to the bank before you let them know you can't pay or before the date they are due to take the payment. You can then negotiate a repayment plan that suits you and pay via bank transfer.

 

Just a thought but dont these people have to leave you money for priority debts, food etc?

 

No, I'm afraid they don't -they couldn't care less if you have no money left - these type of firms only care about getting their money

I've had the same thing happen with Wage Day Advance and i did have a payment plan set up with them.

I've spoken to the OFT and they've given me a reference number to get back in touch with them - report Wonga to them too.

The more complaints the OFT get about these companies the better.

I've sent a recorded delivery letter to my bank's visa debit disputes dept stating that i did not authorise the money to be taken. That the amount was incorrect etc.

Awaiting their reply.

I've sent e mails to Wage Day Advance who haven't bothered to reply (wht should they!).

I'm going to take matters as far as possible, not just because of the money but the principle of it.

My advice is to get in touch with your bank for advice asap and then dispute the withdrawel via visa debit - ask them to return the funds.

Afternoon guys, Wonga came out top banana! Just had a fonecall from one of there seniour members of staff.....on his day off no less! they are refunding my money back into my account and have set up an arrangement to pay them in installments

I helped a friend out with Wonga, got them to quote the new OFT guidelines that they can't take random amounts out of peoples accounts. Copied everybody I could think of into the email and got a repayment plan set up within the day

Evening guys, Sorry about the delay on this. I have been working quite a bit!

 

Im not sure what i did that exactly got my cash back but i did send an email round to various parts of wonger including there investors.

 

Had a realy good chat with there collections manager on sunday afternoon and they gave me all of my cash back minus £50 wich is the ammount i have agreed to pay on a monthly basis.

 

Im not sure if i have been lucky or i just got my point accross but wonga have been realy good about this.

Prehaps wonga are trying to help where they can, set themself apart from all the other payday cowboys that are knocking around. Would certainly make sence. Why wouldnt they accept payment plans from people? i do think they are obliged to realy.
