Experian Credit Report and 6 year old defaults

Hi all

 

I've just got my Experian credit report as I know there are debts outstanding from 2002-2006 and I wanted to see what was on there.

 

There are indeed entries from DCAs showing accounts that defaulted in 2005, that I have not paid since they defaulted. I have been receiving letters from DCAs recently as I am now on the electoral register - I wasn't at previous addresses.

 

There was a note on my credit report saying that defaults over 6 years old will be removed from the file whether or not they had been settled.

 

I suppose my question is - If I now acknowledge and start repaying these debts, will that 'revive' the file and keep it live for as long as I'm making repayments, or will they still drop off next year even if I have only just started replaying them.

 

If I continue to try and ignore them for the next 12 months or so, will they just drop off? Then will I continue to receive letters etc?

Any advice/knowledge would be appreciated.

it doesn't matter whether you make paments, the default must still disappear after six years. the default date clock can't be re-started. personally, i'd ignore the letters for another year or so, so the debts become statute barred, unless of course you live in scotland in which case the limitation period is only five years. and of course that depends on whether you've actually acknowledged the debts are yours since they defaulted.

I agree that as you have waited this long you may as well stick it out. My final default automatically disappeared from my file last week six years and one day after being entered. 8)
