Nine years ago my brother and i took out a joint business loan provided by NatWest for which both our properties were used as collateral. A charge was placed on both properties until the loan was repaid. The loan was fully repaid about 3 years later. About a month ago I was considering remortgaging when my mortgage provider informed me that 6 years later and NatWest still had a charge on my property. After numerous phone calls and visits to my branch it transpires that they had forgotten to release my property despite loan being repaid in full some time ago. They stated that they will do so however there is a fee of £240. My question is do I have to pay this?
