A fifty stone lady was shown on gmtv this morning and she lost over 37 stone in weight. I think it was described as losing a quater of a tonne and have to say she went from looking tired and obviously overweight to gorgeous and full of energy.

I look at myself in the mirror at 17stone and no offence to my granma, but see her and she died very young. I am only 41 but going on 60 and think if she can lose quater of a tonne, why am I struggling over about 5/6 stone.

Maybe my face would look a little younger and not like jabba the huts wifey like it does now.

Right gonna use my halogen oven and cook jacket spuds for dinner every day and eat healthily and then for my record put my weight once a fortnight to see if it inspires me to get rid of the flab.

I know I recover better from seizures when lighter, its just a matter of the extra weight on what feels like every muscle in your body is torn or pulled anyhow, and obvioulsy the bigger the weight the more it hurts moving my bod to the loo etc....

So lets see:

Today countdown tomorow day 1 of diet, sounds like rocket launch doesnt it. Not going to call it no more choccy diet, becaue I will fail. When let myself have a little I end up not wanting it, so thats what I will do.

Today 16stone 13pounds and 3/4, so think we can count that as 17stone:D

Good luck too, I am visiting the nearby gym at least three times a week, if not to use the nice swimming pool there, I want to be confident in the pool by the end of the summer instead of doggy paddle round the sides!

I should loose weight too but it isnt my prime reason for going to the gym... when I was at my thinnest I was very very miserable which is unlike me, so you need to look at your motivational factors to keep going....

Thanks :D

Yep, this woman apparantly became an author and I think concentrating on that helped.

Its not nice when the weather gets hot to be so overweight, realise now not too late. This woman was 45 and looks about 30 now.

Problem with me is I have always wanted to be my mums weight, she was stick thin and thought she was overweight at 7stone. I up untill 20s was the same weight and lived off pot noodles. I think I will aim for 12stone, then 10stone as final goal though realise might find my natural weight is higher than that as I go along.

Think was told should be 10stone 7 according to wii fit, so going with that.

Measuring, measuring.........:D

Good luck, like you I have health reasons for losing weight and at the moment am finding it soooo difficult. Everything seems to take a massive amount of energy which is in very short supply. Everything aches or hurts especially my joints.

I have a horrible relationship with food but find it really difficult....if you said to a heroin addict, you are going to stop taking heroin for pleasure but take three small hits a day, what success do you think they would have?

At least an alcoholic or drug addict is encouraged to stay away from the substance of their addiction!

Advice given is my opinion only, I am not a legal or financial expert (far from it).

I agree. Cant forget the time I had two serious fits it one hour and was carted away to hospital, normally I insist on staying here. I overheared the ambulance woman commenting on how she was struggling with my weight down the stairs, I was in and out, but do remember that:eek: They later suggested my bedroom be moved to garage and ask for help to convert it if dont want to go to bungalow, I was nearer 19 stone then, so dropped a few stone as didnt want to move, but its creaped back.:eek:

I was also more concerned for what I would do with my big freezer in the garage:)

hi ll, best of luck with the effort (i hate the word diet). i take 2-3 tsp of sugar in my tea or coffee and now use splenda 2 or 3 tabs in my drinks and hand on heart after a day or two you won't notice the dif. that's if you take sugar. second best piece of advice is to increase the activity - not everyone can do a lot - but any increase will do three things for you -one, keep you busy and so you wont be knoshing and two, burn up some calories which helps with the plan and three - even minimal exercise will help to reshape a bit. remember, baby steps, take each day and don't beat yourself up if you slip up.

it's like most things - just keep at it.

let us know how you are doing.

running has done wonders for me - but i know it's not for everyone.

also, a friend of mine i hadn't seen for awhile and who has always been large-ish, has lost a stone quite quickly with slimming world and she has never been able to loose weight before - just a thought. what works for some might/might not work for others.

good luck

Thanks for the support. Yep I take 3 suggar cubes in my tea, so could easily drop a few calories there. Funny enough I prefer diet pop drinks to sugar ones, so can reach for one of them if need sweet fix at least its sacharin based I think, but tastes lovely.

A few days ago made myself a cuppa that was okay but didnt taste right, wasnt till finished realised I had forgot to put the sugar in. Got away with it because I had eaten so much rubbish I think prior, but again it didnt taste bad, so hope there:D

On the sad side, cadburys will have a fall in profits with me cutting back, but not going to worry as they are kraft and as all choccy will probably tase of kraft soon, gonna be nice and stop now.:) Kraft will ruin choccy.

Wonder if there is a choccyholics annonymous?:D

I was like you lL, assumed I'd allways be like my stick thin mother. Somewhere along the lines my Dad's genes kicked in . I have to try keep my weight low as I have joint problems. I do eat healthy and don't drink tea or coffee, used to drink a lot of wine but have been knocking that on the head. I'm trying to go on the wii fit every day as I'm struggeling to get to the gym at the mo for one reason and another. I've never weighed myself but have decided to do it on the wii fit once a week to see if it helps with motivation etc. It is difficult. I'm a bridesmaid in two weeks and am so worried i'll be 'the fat one'. I hate having my pic taken at the best of times. Good luck, I think it's just trying to be healthier in general, not going too overboard or it puts you off (does me anyway). Keep it simple and make small changes at a time, don't do it all in one go would be my advice as I can find that's a bit too much of a shock to the system.

Your right, I remember before I fell off the wii bored (dont ask:-o) the first session on it, the following morning after hoola hooping, Iwas in agony, so expect that again. But do admit I do love the hoola hooping so hope can do that okay. I was one of these people who went to the gym everyday before and after work, loved it, but obviously was ott with it. It kept me at size 10/12 easily.

Then started to collapse due to epilepsy and still at first went to the gym, cut down sessions and then unfortunatley I had a seizure on the treadmill. I am lucky not to remember what happened but they were furious I didnt inform them of having epielepsy.

Told me not allowed to the club again unless paid for companion membership as well to would you believe it stand by me and supervise, they were mad at me. It hadnt occured to me that the eplilepsy was a long term thing, doh:eek:

Couldnt afford to pay for two so had to leave, but the gets still tried to take me to court to pay for a membership I wasnt allowed to use, now realise this sort of thing is the norm they arnt too sympathetic.

Anyhow became less mobile and hospital couldnt control the fits so had to leave work for some time and other issue raised its head at same time, went back to work after counselling but made to feel unwelcome. They wouldnt let me as before on anyones window though I had to allow them on mine as usual. Another words they thought I was making a lot of mistakes, which to be honest i could have been, I dont remember.

Had my first kid and seizures went mad and it hit pretty hard that new couldnt return to work and doctor told me unlikely to be able to if condition didnt improve anyhow, so concentrate on being mummy, which I did.

Just became a fat mummy:D:D

I remember in a dept store bursting into tears that I had to wear my first size 16 skirt. OOOh what I would do to squeeze into one now and probably I have them still in the garage:eek:

All my 90s shoulder pad suits are in there, one bright yellow;)

So if when lose weight and I put up piccies wearing out dated clothes by a couple of decades you know its an achievement xxxxxxxx

I have fallen off the wii board many a time lol . I think it's usually hoola hooping or trying to balance on one leg. I am rubbish at the hoola hoop though!! Really rubbish. I have to be carefull because of my joints which excercises I do as some are not appropriate and I can injur myself. And that's without my accident proneness! Most of the time it's obvious which ones I shouldn't do and will cause stress on my joints, but not allways.

You have had one hell of a time with the epilepsy! I do sympathise and I can't imagine what it's been like for you, but it does sound like you've come on leaps and bounds, and it may be a good time for you to get healthier now you're more stable. If you'd done it when you were really unstable fitting wise it could have upset your body even more, I would imagine.

I refuse to let go of my old clothes. I have clothes still with the tag that I've never worn that I bought when I was in denial and refused to acknowledge that my arse had gone bigger. To throw them out feels like defeat. I refuse to give in to my daddy's genes!! Hopefully i'll join you in wearing outdated innapropriate for my age clothing, just because we can :) xxx

Ooh, and my wii piggy changed colour today because I've done over 10 hours! :-) I won't say how long I've had it lol (quite a while, ahem), but it still made me feel better to see a shiny new piggy.

Hey, shoulder pads are back in, my ladies day at ascot 1992/3 would probably be right back in soon;)

Did dispose of the wedding dress though, in a scene similar to horror movie, it left in bits but felt good.

Starved to get in that dress:mad:

Back on the wii bored tommorow xxxx

It's my weigh day today . I decided last wednesday that I was going to do it once a week on that day. I haven't done it yet, but after the hen weekend I'm not expecting a glowing report.

One odd thing that I find helps is taking Chromium as a supplement, it is not normally available in Holland and Barrett but in more specialist shops... it helps regulate your hormones so is good for menopause and sleep problems. I found it stops any sugar cravings dead.

I am on three cups of coffee a day with no sugar and don't do fizzy drinks. I gave up crisps, cakes and biscuits when I first started getting arthritis symptoms and have never gone back to crisps, I do have the occasional biscuit and bit of cake but only once a week.

Too many diets focus on vitamin supplements and forget about the trace minerals which help the vitamins do their job.

I was pointed in the direction of Chromium by a proper dietitian (her name is often mentioned in newspaper reports) and must say it does work.

You only take it for 30 days then have 30 days off, if symptoms return you take it again but the one course should do the trick.

I may try that sillygirl, i'm a bit young for the menopause but have allways had trouble sleeping and do get quite tempremental when I'm due on so may try that. I only drink water (sometimes at night I have wine) but have been cutting back on the wine. I'm lucky I guess in that my fave drink is water, and that I don't have much of a sweet tooth. It's more savoury food that does it for me. Pizza, chips and gravy etc, but I've been doing well eating healthy during the week and having my treats only at the weekends. I find it easier in warmer weather to eat healthy, I guess most people do, but I do struggle very much in winter. All I want is pie and such like. Good 'ol stodge!
