Hi Gang

Seems Windows 7 has a virus all to its self. The Black screen of Death!

When I booted up today- I got a Black screen with the following message in bottom right corner:

Windows 7

Build 7600

This copy is not genuine:???:

Windows 7 is actually MS build 6.100 (or vista service pack 3?)

I know that it is because I brought it from a well known office suppy co.

Next windows appeared to go through the authorisation process and announce it was genuine.

I had heard about this on the Zdnet web site- My Norton 360 can't find anything. Any ideas Guys (and girls)?

Prevx was the 1st website to comment on BlSoD, stating it was due to 2 MS updates (then withdrawing that statement very fast... perhaps because they realised MS have quite a few expensive lawyers :p). Prevx released a "cure" read about that here.

Black Screen woes could affect millions on Windows 7, Vista and XP

I turned on the "show windows version on desktop" and my Win7 is build 7600. That's perfectly normal, I think it's Windows 6.1.7600 anyway.

The above post constitutes my personal opinion on the facts in the post compared with my personal knowledge of the applicable legislation. I make no guarantees of its legal accuracy. If you are in doubt seek advice of a legal professional specialising in the area concerned.

Yup, type "ver" in windows command and it tells you the version of the OS

or it just says it in the top line :) If you type Win + R (or go to run), then type in CMD it will come up with the command window.

Mine is on 7100 but then I am still running RC1, I have had a problem with windows verification though, as one of my laptops is now saying it is not genuine when I know it is (I get free licences through MSDN)

LOL I didn't even read the CMD screen (even though I posted it in my screen shot!)

VER has been the command to see what version you are running since MS DOS and I naturally go for it :p
