Hi, sorry for hijacking this thread but new to all this. I received an unpaid council tax bill from 1998 early this year so I contacted the County court in my area to find out any information in relation to the 6 yr statute of limitations in relation to this debt. I was informed by the court office that due to this being a Council tax bill it did not come under the Statute of limitationsa, can anyone shed any light on this as to whether its true or not?

Thanks in advance.

The council should not go to the magistrates court and ask for a liability order for council tax if the application is made more than six years after the council tax became due. This is under Regulation 34(3) Council Tax (Administration and Enforcement) Regulations 1992.
