'Ethical' Triodos Bank charge £20 for bounced cq/dd

As an ethical alternative from the ususal banking cartel, when running a community group 3 years ago, I used a Triodos 'social venture' current account. I was charged only £5 for a bounced cheque once, so was going to suggest it as an altenative bank to folks here.

 

Upon re-checking their charges, they now charge £20. Although still too high IMO, thats a lot better than the £39 the Halifax charge. THey have a deal with Bank of Scotland branches, so this may suit some for getting away from the usual suspect banks.

Hi Folks,

 

I wondered if anyone else has dealt with Triodos. I've been hammered with bank charges myself, and now that I'm actually in a different position with money to invest, I don't want to go anywhere near the big banks. I'm considering claiming back the charges from Bank of Scotland and have opened a parachute account with A&L, but the thought of keeping my money with them just makes me feel sick to my stomache.

 

Triodos was recommended in a book by Antonia Swinson, "The Root of All Evil". She's a well-known financial writer. It was a great read, and covers things such as land ownership, ethical banking etc.

 

Any comments would be greatly appreciated.
