Bank Account closure

Okay heres a question.

 

You've managed to get your money back, either by the bank falling over and giving it back or going to court.

 

Then the bank says its going to close your account (is this legal) and does so. What about all the direct debits etc set up on your account. They will go unpaid obviously, thus probably costing you more in charges from other institutions.

 

I wonder if its all worth the trouble unless you can then take the bank to court again for closing your account and incurring more charges.

Perhaps they are more likely to close your account if you are overdrawn?

 

Or maybe likely to keep it open if you had a few thousand quid in?

halifax t+c says 30 days notice. like dave though, i dont see the merits in simply changing banks because ALL banks do it.

Can you close the account before they do within the 30 days notice period if you have another account already set up with another bank ?
