Yes Tom but wheres the thread going from here ?

Theres been some good points raised and some food for thought.

I would not suggest for a minute that mistakes have not been made-we are all human and you will know too well that quite often our words can be a reflection of what we are feeling in the heat of the moment.

I think the most important thing is that mistakes should be learned from and its a shame that some seem to think that when mistakes are made lessons are not learned by those involved.

When we get things wrong we get our ar@@s kicked-thats the way it has to be.But some things are beyond redemption-thats not just something that is practised by CAG.....its the same in life !

I think it's fair to say that there have been events in the past which have caused resentment and hurt to caggers and to others, but the vast majority of CAG users probably aren't aware of them, and care even less.

Sadly the problems keep being raked up, but are frankly totally irrelevant to the fight against charges and sometimes detract from what we're here for. If we can work together great, but if not let's just get on with what we're here for in our own way, and let others do the same; ie helping people.

The Consumer Action Group is a free help site.

Thank you for your reminders of history Buzz.

I think there are many people aware how CAG was started-Marc and Dave seized upon an opportunity that most people would have done given the insight and chance. The fact that there are now close on 200k members bears testimony to that.

You are entitled of course to have your own opinions but to me it looks a teeny bit one sided.

I cant recall new members being berated for bringing up old questions..of course there may have been some instances but I cant remember it being a big problem-if it had of been then it would have been discussed.

Despite what you may think there has to be some organisation and teamwork to allow a site like CAG to grow.

Any site with 200k members will have some of the elements of discontent that you speak of I think if the truth be known the other sites probably have ALL had their share.

Its strange that the resentment of the running and administration of CAG for some only came after it was made clear to them that they were not welcome

If the site has lost its way so much-then why do so many of those who chose to go elsewhere now find themselves back here after looking at life on the other side of the grass ?

You state CAG would be incapable of working with other sites-and yet CAG has maintained a good rappore with the sites that are considered to be worthy of collaberation with.

You fail to mention that there are reasons why it would be difficult to enter joint cooperation with some of these other sites, whether it be because of the ways in which they operate...or whether there are individuals or groups who have themselves shown contempt to be a part of CAG in the first place.

Yes opinions and thoughts are ok to air-but if we are going to do that then lets not be so uneconomical with some home truths.

I dont think they need to be spelled out.

Am I the only one to see the irony in your reply.

The sarcastic first paragraph. .

Ok, there are many members who are aware of the site and its origins but there are many newer members who may not be. You seem to be forgetting them

Wasnt this one criticism in my original post regarding new members.

I also accept that CAG are a very successful site . I have made that clear in my post.

You boast however that you have 200,000 members.

Why then on an average session are fewer than 300 of these logged on.

If this was my site I would question the reasons.

OK, like all sites, many members will join- get advice- leave, but not all 199,700 !!

I would like to know which home truths you refer to??? Please elaborate.

If you wish to see instances of over moderation, look in the "vehicle" forum.

You will see a full thread of posts written by myself from different sections -all put into one thread.

Why is it when members agree with you - thats ok. When they might differ, we get sarcastic replies?

as the OP of this thread, can I ask for it to be closed please? it is now only bringing up past disputes that benefit nobody.

My original purpose on this thread was to inform people of RUC closing, to thank RUC for their help to many peeps, and to voice concerns about all the reclaim sites, during the prolonged period where the OFT trial is draining away interest.

i will be off site for the next month or so. if you have any problems, feel free to report the post so a moderator can help you.

Both consumer action group, carcreditcomplaints and majority of the consumer forums online offer an invaluable source of information to consumers.

A big well done to you all, it's a shame that any forum should have to close.

Where would we all be without them. Lets all stick together and remember who we are fighting against. Lets not fall out between ourselves!

Incidently, the history of how cag was started is well documented on the front page of the website. There is no 'cover up'. We asked Stefano (from Bank Charges Hell) if he wanted to admin a forum with us as we thought it would be easier to follow threads that way instead of a Yahoo email group, and he declined for his own reasons.

As to the 300 logged on comment - there are currently 800 logged on.

I belong and post to another forum of similar size (slightly larger membership, 270k) and the ratio is roughly the same...and thankfully so. There is no way CAG could exist with all 200k members on line at the same time - the hosting costs alone would cripple us.
